What hi fi Turntable of the Year - 2010”

New Limited Edition: Introducing the just released limited edition 'Queen by Rega' custom Turntable.

  • With less than 200 available in Australia, & only 2000 world wide, the Queen limited edition Rega RP1 custom Turntable is a truly unique, must have piece.
  • The Queen RP1 has only just been released & is designed specifically for ‘Queen'.
  • It includes a custom high-gloss acrylic laminated plinth that includes the ‘Queen by Rega' logo.
  • The ‘Queen crest' platter has been crafted from artwork created by Freddie Mercury.
  • Hand-built RB101 tonearm.
  • Queen dust cover + lid badge.

Excellent build quality, reliability and ease of use combine to make a product that will offer a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Omitting all the usual gimmicks allows Rega to concentrate the manufacturing costs on the high quality parts necessary to reproduce records accurately. The RP1 has been recognised in reviews and awards as a turntable designed and engineered to achieve outstanding performance way beyond the expectations of a product at its price point.
Using a manual speed change rather than an automatic mechanism eliminates speed inconsistencies and reduces wear of the drive belt. The money saved is spent across the design including a new hand assembled RB101 tonearm, precision main bearing, phenolic resin platter and a high quality low vibration motor which would normally be used on a turntable costing two or three times the amount.
The minimalist design of the Rega RP1 and the use of extremely high-quality components ensure that this turntable will last for many years. The RP1 is the first in a new generation of Rega turntables offering far greater performance than their predecessors.
Rega is confident the performance of this amazing new product will impress you. Rest assured the only thing entry level about the RP1 is the price!

The all new completely British-made RP1 features:
- Brand new Rega RB101 tonearm.
- Precision main bearing and sub-platter assembly.
- High quality low vibration motor.

What hi fi Sound & Vision - 5 Stars - Product of the Year - 2010
For: Easy to use and set-up; fine build
Against: Nothing at this price level
Given Rega’s pedigree at higher prices it’s no surprise to see the company delivering such an excellent budget product.
It doesn’t take long to see that the RP1 is a terrific performer for the money. It sounds surefooted and confident whether playing a heavily used copy of Holst’s The Planets or a factory fresh pressing of The XX’s Mercury-prize winning debut.
It’s a budget deck that doesn’t sound like one. TechRadar - 4 out of 5 stars - October 2010
Rega, once the king of the affordable turntable sector has just reasserted its position in the market a brand-new entry-level model, the RP1.
Rega's music-first approach takes a bit of grasping and those coming to vinyl for the first time might find the lack of serious bass and refined highs a little surprising. But give it more time and its tune-playing skills win through.
We think the RP1 is a great turntable and one that will force the competition to up its game. This is, of course, excellent news for vinyl lovers and all hi fi aficionados.
Tone Audio reviewed by Jeff Dorgay
There’s no easier turntable on Earth to set up than the RP1. It comes with the cartridge already mounted. This is the perfect table for vinyl newcomers; anyone can set it up.
Having owned every turntable Rega has produced so far except for the P7, the lineage was apparent as I played the first track. The RP1 has a substantial helping of the “Rega Sound”, with a speedy attack, and a clean midrange.
After extended listening sessions in three very different levels of systems, the RP1 definitely delivers a solid helping of analog magic. When comparing the Rega to the sound of the OPPO 83SE digital player, the Rega table definitely had the edge over digital playback, sounding much more open and natural.
A great place to start your analog journey.

About Rega
Rega Research has been producing specialist hi fi for over 30 years. Founded in Westcliff-on-Sea, Southend in 1973, Rega began life by Making turntables, developing the world-famous Planar 2 and Planar 3 in their first two years. More than twenty years later, the original theories behind these unique turntables still remain in production today, improved but not radically altered and are still regarded as benchmarks by which all others are judged.
About the Ortofon OME5 Stylus
With an elliptical stylus, the OM5E promises quality sound from Ortofon's moving magnet (VMS) system. New technology and further optimisation have produced the greatest sounding magnetic cartridges from Ortofon - ever!
Ortofon has been designing and manufacturing magnetic cartridges for more than 20 years. In providing an economic alternative to the renowned Ortofon moving coil cartridges, the magnetic models have established a firm position for themselves among music lovers and hi fi cognoscenti the world over.
Naturally, the magnetic cartridges also benefit from Ortofon's research and experience in transducer technology. Sophisticated styli, light and rigid cantilevers, and advanced magnetic circuitry have produced a level of quality which is state-of-the-art within the magnetic category.
The Super OM cartridges have been designed on the basis of Ortofon's lightweight moving magnet system - originally introduced in the OM (Optimum Match) Series - with two major refinements.
By means of advanced computer simulation methods, it has been possible to define the natural pivot point of the system with unprecedented accuracy while achieving an optimum oscillation balance. This translates into improved linearity, higher channel separation, and reduced distortion. In addition, Ortofon has succeeded in developing a technique by which to slit the less than 1 mm diameter hollow pole pins, thus significantly reducing eddy current losses caused by magnetic hysteresis.
This sophisticated technology extends the frequency range and improves phase linearity. The cartridge body is manufactured from a Noryl plastic/glass combination, which ensures high rigidity, and freedom from resonances.
Ortofon OME5 Stylus Reviews:
HFX Systems
"I liked the OM5E's ability to shovel out loads of detail from the groove, but I liked the overall liveliness and thrust of the cartridge even better."
Epinions Review
"This phono pickup most assuredly is a standout Five Star Performer!"
