About The Audio Tailor

Sound specialists, not salesmen.

We're Stuart, Gabby, Nathan, Yvonne, Vaughan and Kevin (and Hudson). We got into this because we genuinely love audio, and it's a pleasure to have you here.

It usually starts with a question

“What’s the difference between…”

That's the first question we usually hear. When you're shopping for new speakers, a turntable or the home theatre of your teenage dreams, you're faced with stacks of comparisons. Is NAD better than Marantz? Should I wait for a sale? What will I miss out on when the new model comes out next year?

Endless questions, lots of FOMO. And there should be. You don't spend $2,000, $3,000 or $15,000 on something you're not completely sure of. It's a lot of hard-earned money on the line.

Buy from the wrong place and it can go wrong: speakers that never arrive, a turntable with a cracked dust cover, an amp that doesn't deliver the sound you had in mind. And no one to call.

Why we're here

We got into this business because we genuinely love audio, and because there was a lot of faceless dropshipping in hi-fi and not enough expertise.

People keep coming back because they get attention to detail and solutions built around them, not a sales pitch. It's also why we were voted Australia's Hi-Fi Retailer of the Year. Thank you.

How we work

It starts with a conversation

When you come to us, you're in for a conversation. We want to know the picture in your head.

A record from the flea market, ready for a turntable you haven't quite chosen. A summer barbecue with crisp, clear sound drifting through the open doors. The kids home with their mates, lights out, lost in a movie in the home theatre that's your pride and joy.

Once we know exactly what that looks like, we'll want to know what you're working with.

What we'll ask you

  1. 01 What kind of budget have you set aside?
  2. 02 What does your existing set-up look like?
  3. 03 How big is the listening room you have in mind?
  4. 04 How much ambient light comes in?
  5. 05 Drywall or wood panelling?
  6. 06 Carpet or hardwood?
  7. 07 What about room resonance and reflection?

No idea what we're going on about? No worries. We'll talk you through all of it.

Tested, not told

We don't take a brand's word for it.

We've developed our own testing process and source only from the most reliable brands and trustworthy suppliers. So every recommendation comes from hands-on listening, not a spec sheet.

Our promise

Personal. Seamless. Painless.

  1. 01

    Personal

Uniquely you in musicality, design and taste. Your options are hand-picked by us from some of the world's biggest, best and most dependable brands.

  2. 02

    Seamless

We're only small. You get one of us, not one of dozens of salespeople working on commission and pushing the most expensive products.

  3. 03

    Painless

We don't recommend anything until we're clear about your needs. For us, the job isn't done until your equipment is safely installed and sounding exactly right.

Founder and Director

Stuart Taylor

As founder and director of The Audio Tailor, my journey in the hi-fi industry spans nearly four decades of pursuing audio excellence. Since 1986, I've been fortunate to cultivate deep roots in both Brisbane and Perth markets, establishing successful stores across Queensland and Western Australia. The launch of Aussie Hi-Fi in 2001, followed by The Audio Tailor in 2013, reflects my ongoing passion for delivering exceptional audio experiences. Music isn't just my business, it's my firm belief that it enriches life's journey. Leading with a customer-first mindset, I've nurtured a company culture that prioritises outstanding results for audio enthusiasts. My quest for sonic perfection never stands still; I'm constantly exploring ways to enhance our offerings and share the joy of pristine sound with fellow music lovers.

Operations Manager

Yvonne Taylor

As Operations Manager at The Audio Tailor, I'm the behind-the-scenes conductor keeping our family-owned business in perfect harmony. While my husband Stuart jokingly dubbed me our "Chief Everything Officer" (with a job description that literally read "EVERYTHING"), I simply enjoy orchestrating the daily flow of customer relations, finance, logistics and HR. Working alongside our talented team, I help keep the engine running smoothly, and believe in letting our premium audio solutions speak for themselves while I focus on transforming the complex into seamless operations.

Hi-fi and turntable specialist

Nathan Shoemark

Nathan brings over 15 years of experience in the hi-fi industry. With deep knowledge of high-performance audio, home theatre systems, and premium music equipment, he loves helping customers find the perfect solution to suit their needs and expectations.

Nathan’s expertise spans from amplifiers and speakers to network streaming and anything in between. As a vinyl listener with a keen interest in turntables, Nathan especially enjoys advising, tweaking, upgrading and setting up new or existing turntables for optimal performance.

Whether you’re a dedicated audiophile or just starting your audio journey, Nathan ensures every client leaves with a setup that suits their space, taste, and lifestyle, no matter what stage of their Hi-Fi journey.

Client Services Specialist

Gabby Broome

As a Client Services Specialist at The Audio Tailor, I'm your first point of contact in ensuring your audio journey runs smoothly. Whilst juggling daily logistics and system operations, my primary focus is delivering exceptional customer care, whether you're making a purchase, seeking repairs, or need assistance. Working behind the scenes and on the front lines, I take pride in maintaining the high standards our customers expect, ensuring every interaction with us hits the right note. Think of me as your personal audio concierge, here to orchestrate a seamless experience from start to finish.

Network specialist

Kevin Yeh

Streaming-based and multi-room systems are only ever as good as the network sitting behind them. Buffering, drop-outs and Wi-Fi dead spots have nothing to do with your speakers and everything to do with what's happening behind the walls, so we brought in a specialist to make sure that side of things is never the weak link in your system.

Kevin brings over 15 years' experience designing and managing networks for businesses and premium homes across Australia. He works with enterprise-grade platforms like Ubiquiti UniFi to deliver whole-home Wi-Fi that actually reaches every room, hardwired ethernet backbones where they matter most, and network segmentation that keeps your audio traffic running smoothly and free from the congestion caused by everything else in your home.

Whether it's a dedicated listening room, a full multi-room install or a commercial fit-out, Kevin's approach is the same: get the infrastructure right from day one, so it quietly does its job every time you turn the system on. He's supported networks for organisations across professional services, healthcare, manufacturing and retail, and brings that same enterprise discipline to the network behind your sound.

The upshot for you: fewer dropped connections, faster support if anything ever needs adjusting, secure remote access when you need a hand, and one less thing standing between you and the sound you paid for.

Junior Pawperations Officer

Hudson

I'm the newest and by far the smallest member of the team at The Audio Tailor, and as Junior Pawperations Officer, I can assure you the role is in very safe paws. While the humans concern themselves with soundstage, imaging and impedance, I've taken charge of floor level acoustics, which involves lying in front of the largest speakers in the room and letting the bass come to me. My other duties include greeting every visitor at the door, supervising deliveries with a thorough sniff, and warming the demo room chairs before anyone sits down. I do have some very big paws to fill. Hugo set the standard for the welcome around here, and I'm working my way up to it (my tail wagging, I'm told, is already at a professional level). Come and say hello. You'll find me by the door, or asleep under someone's desk, delighted you came.

In loving memory

Chief Pawperations Officer

Hugo

Hugo was our Chief Pawperations Officer, and for years he was the first hello anyone got at our door. He was family long before he was staff.

He greeted every visitor like an old friend. He could not tell vinyl from digital and never once cared, though he always chose to lie by the biggest speakers in the room. Come in for a demonstration and you would usually find him in the listening room, running one of his important sound sleep tests. Nobody left here without a warm welcome from him.

We lost Hugo, and we are still getting used to it. The store is quieter. His spot by the big speakers stays empty. We still find ourselves listening for him.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to say hello to him over the years. That was always his favourite part of the job, and ours too.

Rest easy, Hugo. Good boy.
