The Onkyo TX-DS696 is a solid and versatile early-2000s AV receiver designed to be the centerpiece of a home theater system, combining strong amplification with flexible connectivity and surround sound capabilities.
Released around 2001–2002, the TX-DS696 delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, providing ample power for a full 5.1-channel surround setup. It supports popular formats of the time, including Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II, allowing it to create immersive, cinema-style audio from both movies and music sources.
Sound quality is a standout feature, with a wide frequency response (5 Hz to 100 kHz) and low distortion, giving it a clean, dynamic, and detailed sound. Onkyo’s high-current amplifier design and robust internal components help ensure good speaker control and reliable performance across a range of speaker types.
