There are amplifiers that deliver power, and there are amplifiers that deliver music. The Bel Canto E1X A500 does both — with a conviction and authority that comes from decades of engineering refinement and a fundamental refusal to compromise on any element of the signal path.
Built in a sleek, all-aluminium chassis with Bel Canto's unique constrained-layer damping — the finest anti-vibration platform available for high-power amplification — the E1X A500 combines a fully balanced analogue preamplifier stage with a high-powered stereo amplifier that delivers 500 watts into 4 ohms and 250 watts into 8 ohms per channel. Peak output current reaches 27 amperes. Minimum load is 2 ohms. The damping factor exceeds 500. Output impedance at 100Hz is less than 16 milliohms.

SSHC: The Proprietary Heart of the A500
At the core of the E1X A500 is Bel Canto's proprietary SSHA (Single Stage High-Current Amplifier) interposer — a very fast, ultra-low noise amplifier with a single-stage folded cascode architecture and over 500mA of peak current output capability. Its high open-loop bandwidth maintains constant, very low distortion levels throughout the audio band, bringing an exceptional degree of dynamic resolution and contrast to the NCore power buffer stage.
The vertical modular design allows a tight, efficient PCB layout that combines the best of IC-based and discrete component design — a degree of refinement that is especially critical when the circuit is capable of 130dB of dynamic range or more.
Fully Balanced Throughout
The fully balanced preamplifier stage is built with precision resistors and a custom, triple-isolated low-noise power transformer, maintaining optimal signal balance to the amplifier and achieving the lowest possible noise and distortion levels at every stage. Ultra-short signal paths and the absolute minimum number of output devices ensure that over 500 watts of audio power can be delivered without loss of dynamics or deviation from the audio source.
Class D Without Compromise
The high efficiency of Class D eliminates thermal modulation — making the E1X A500 inherently resistant to output stage bias wander and sonic ghosting. Output power devices operate as efficient switches, meaning fewer components are needed to deliver considerable audio power. The result is amplification that remains true to the source at any volume and in any listening condition.
Total Connectivity
The E1X A500 is designed to support the finest source components, with two pairs of balanced XLR inputs, four high-quality Cardas custom RCA inputs, and independently buffered XLR and RCA outputs for subwoofer or secondary zone use. WBT Nextgen 5-way binding posts — two sets — ensure the highest quality connection to your loudspeakers. A dedicated, independent headphone output completes the picture.
