ℹ Product Information

Marten was founded in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1998 by Leif Marten Olsson, a musician who came to loudspeaker design from a listener's perspective rather than an engineer's. That origin shapes everything about the brand. Where many high-end speaker companies measure performance in terms of frequency response linearity and distortion figures, Marten measures it in terms of musical engagement — the capacity of a loudspeaker to communicate the emotional content of a performance, not merely its technical accuracy. The result is a range of speakers that audiophiles describe with words normally reserved for live music: present, alive, involving.

ENGINEERING PHILOSOPHY

Marten loudspeakers use diamond tweeters and ceramic midrange drivers — materials chosen for their exceptional stiffness, low mass, and near-perfect pistonic behaviour across their operating range. These drivers are expensive to manufacture and demanding to implement correctly, which is why relatively few speaker designers use them. Marten's crossover designs are developed to allow these exceptional drivers to work at their best, using air-core inductors and film capacitors that contribute no sonic signature of their own. The cabinet construction uses high-density MDF laminated with real wood veneers in a range of finishes, braced internally to eliminate resonance. The sonic character that emerges from all of this is not clinical or analytical — it is musical, with an effortless quality in the upper frequencies that makes long listening sessions genuinely pleasurable.

WHY THE AUDIO TAILOR CARRIES MARTEN

We carry Marten because our clients who love music — not just audio equipment — respond to these speakers in a way that is different from almost anything else we demonstrate. If you listen to a lot of live music, or if you play an instrument, you will understand immediately what Marten has achieved.

Mingus Orchestra: The Harmonious Blend of Artistry and Acoustics

Introducing the Mingus Orchestra: A Symphony of Sound and Design The Mingus Orchestra is the crown jewel of the Mingus series, encapsulating the strength and clarity of Diamond drivers within a beautifully crafted cabinet. Drawing inspiration from the Coltrane and Heritage series, it bridges the gap between them, offering an unrivaled auditory experience that fits perfectly into your living space.

Key Features of the Mingus Orchestra

  1. First Order Crossover: The bespoke crossover, developed for the Supreme 2, ensures flawless time coincidence and perfect time and phase coherence. This leads to record-low distortion and a natural, dynamic sound.
  2. Diamond Dome Tweeters: The use of pure diamond in the high-frequency range results in a sound that sparkles with clarity and truth, allowing every nuance and motion of the music to be heard.
  3. Ceramic Domes: Known for their rigidity and lightness, these domes offer minimal distortion and a high level of clarity, making them ideal for high-end speaker membranes.
  4. Cell Bass Drivers: Designed with long excursion and extremely low distortion levels, these drivers deliver rich, dynamic bass performance.
  5. Piano Black Cabinet: The Mingus Orchestra's cabinet, finished in Piano Black with solid wood tops and bottoms, is handcrafted by local Swedish artisans. The cabinet's shape and dimensions have been optimized for low resonance and diffraction control.
  6. Jorma Design Internal Wiring: Handmade in Sweden, this wiring uses the highest quality copper for natural, transparent sound, perfectly complementing the speaker's design.
  7. Marten Isolators with IsoAcoustics: These isolators ensure the cabinet is completely isolated from the floor, reducing resonance and distortion, and enhancing the soundstage.

Optional Statement Edition Upgrade An optional upgrade to the Jorma Design Statement is available, further enhancing the sound quality with superior internal cabling and crossover components.

Designed for Your Space The Mingus Orchestra is a perfect fit for those who desire Coltrane-level sound quality without the need to restructure their living space. Its sophisticated design and powerful performance make it an ideal choice for discerning listeners.

Crossover Excellence Marten's dedication to perfecting the crossover for the Accuton Cell drivers is evident in the Mingus Orchestra. The result is a speaker that reproduces sound at the exact moment it was recorded, just like live music.

Awards and Recognition The Mingus Orchestra has earned accolades for its midrange presence, accuracy, and the cohesive nature of its tone, as noted by satisfied owners and audio experts.

Chief Designer's Vision Leif Olofsson, the Chief Designer at Marten, emphasizes that the Mingus Orchestra, with its first-order crossover and Diamond drivers, offers performance on par with the Coltrane series, showcasing the best of Marten's design and technology.

Finish and Craftsmanship The speaker boasts a 25-42 mm fiber laminate Piano Black finish, with a solid wood top and bottom, each layer hand-polished to perfection. This attention to detail not only enhances its visual appeal but also contributes to its exceptional acoustic performance.

Mingus Orchestra: A Testament to Marten's Mastery in Sound Engineering The Mingus Orchestra stands as a testament to Marten's commitment to creating speakers that are not just audio equipment, but works of art. For those who seek a balance of power, control, and sophisticated design, the Mingus Orchestra offers an unparalleled listening experience that brings the essence of live music into your home.
