ℹ Product Information

Marten was founded in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1998 by Leif Marten Olsson, a musician who came to loudspeaker design from a listener's perspective rather than an engineer's. That origin shapes everything about the brand. Where many high-end speaker companies measure performance in terms of frequency response linearity and distortion figures, Marten measures it in terms of musical engagement — the capacity of a loudspeaker to communicate the emotional content of a performance, not merely its technical accuracy. The result is a range of speakers that audiophiles describe with words normally reserved for live music: present, alive, involving.

ENGINEERING PHILOSOPHY

Marten loudspeakers use diamond tweeters and ceramic midrange drivers — materials chosen for their exceptional stiffness, low mass, and near-perfect pistonic behaviour across their operating range. These drivers are expensive to manufacture and demanding to implement correctly, which is why relatively few speaker designers use them. Marten's crossover designs are developed to allow these exceptional drivers to work at their best, using air-core inductors and film capacitors that contribute no sonic signature of their own. The cabinet construction uses high-density MDF laminated with real wood veneers in a range of finishes, braced internally to eliminate resonance. The sonic character that emerges from all of this is not clinical or analytical — it is musical, with an effortless quality in the upper frequencies that makes long listening sessions genuinely pleasurable.

WHY THE AUDIO TAILOR CARRIES MARTEN

We carry Marten because our clients who love music — not just audio equipment — respond to these speakers in a way that is different from almost anything else we demonstrate. If you listen to a lot of live music, or if you play an instrument, you will understand immediately what Marten has achieved.

Mingus Septet: A Masterpiece of Sound Tailored for Modern Living Spaces

Introducing the Mingus Septet: Precision, Power, and Elegance Combined The Mingus Septet is an epitome of acoustic engineering, perfect for those who admire the power and performance of the Mingus Orchestra, but seek a more lounge-friendly listening experience. It maintains the high-level performance of its counterpart, delivering a full-range, deep bass, and wide dynamic sound that is both captivating and immersive.

Key Features of the Mingus Septet

  1. Seven-Driver Design: This heavy-weight four-way speaker features seven drivers, including custom Marten pure diamond tweeters and beryllium high midrange drivers, capturing every detail with unrivaled clarity and precision.
  2. First-Order Crossover: Ensuring an open, clean, and dynamic sound, the crossover provides flawless time coincidence and perfect time and phase coherence.
  3. Advanced Cabinet Design: The tapering of the cabinet reduces sound reflections, and the use of advanced damping mats, wooden tops and bottoms, and a 4mm aluminium plate ensures superb resonance control.
  4. Marten Isolators: These isolators further reduce resonance by separating the cabinet from the supporting surface, enhancing the overall soundstage.

Award-Winning Performance The Mingus Septet has been recognized with the Grand Prix 2023 award by Stereo Sound magazine in Japan, a testament to its exceptional audio quality and design.

Exceptional Components for Unparalleled Sound

  • Diamond Tweeter: Custom pure diamond tweeters offer precise sound reproduction with minimal distortion, even at high volumes.
  • Beryllium High Midrange: The custom-designed high midrange drivers, made of beryllium, provide a fast transient response and high efficiency.
  • Ceramic Mid-Bass Midrange: The ceramic domes, made of rigid and light 'sapphire', minimize distortion and offer crystal-clear clarity.
  • Bass and Passive Bass Drivers: The aluminium sandwich honeycomb bass drivers deliver rich, dynamic bass, complemented by 10” passive drivers for fuller bass response.

Craftsmanship and Finish Options The Mingus Septet cabinets, crafted with precision lacquering and available in various finishes like Zebrano, Walnut, and Piano Black, embody a blend of form and function. The distinct grain of Zebrano wood, for instance, provides a strong, natural contrast to the sleek piano black finish.

Internal Wiring for Pure Sound Marten's commitment to detail extends to the internal wiring. The use of Jorma Design cables, handmade in Sweden, ensures natural, transparent sound, vital for the best listening experience.

Tailored for Your Space The Mingus Septet is designed to be lounge and listener-friendly, easily fitting into a wide range of room sizes. With four levels of bass control, it offers flexibility for placement in smaller living spaces.

Upgrade to Statement Edition For those seeking even greater refinement, the Mingus Septet can be upgraded to the Statement Edition, featuring Jorma Statement internal cables and higher quality crossover components.

A New Benchmark in Audio Technology The Mingus Septet not only pushes forward with technological advancements but also offers profound improvements in audio performance, as noted by Jörgen Olofsson, CEO of Marten. It represents a new benchmark in combining state-of-the-art technology with user-friendly design, making it a perfect fit for modern audiophiles who demand both excellence in sound and elegance in design.
