Wilson Audio The WATT/Puppy 

Introducing a reimagining of one of the most iconic loudspeaker designs ever: The WATT/Puppy. This new iteration honours the original WATT/Puppy's legacy, envisioning what Dave Wilson might have created with today’s advanced technologies and innovations refined over more than 50 years.

CSC Tweeter

Wilson Audio’s Convergent Synergy Carbon (CSC) tweeter, featuring a cutting-edge carbon fiber rear-wave chamber, provides smooth and linear high-frequency extension. Originally developed for the Alexx V and now integrated into the Alexia V and Sasha V systems, this tweeter delivers superior harmonic detail and significantly improved sound quality.

AlNiCo QuadraMag

The WATT/Puppy incorporates Wilson Audio’s 7-inch AlNiCo (Aluminum - Nickel - Cobalt) QuadraMag midrange driver, used in models like the Chronosonic XVX, Alexx V, Alexia V, and Sasha V. This technology produces a tonally rich and exquisite sound in the most sensitive range for human ears, offering a deeply engaging listening experience. The driver’s exceptional linearity enhances depth and dimensionality.

The WATT baffle, made from a unique blend of materials, creates a stable, low-resonance coupling surface for the midrange driver, further enhancing the QuadraMag’s sonic beauty.

Adjustable Rear Spike & Bubble Level

The WATT module features an adjustable rear spike for precise time-domain alignment, the best in any WATT/Puppy version. The module rests on spike track hardware installed in the V-Material top plate, significantly reducing vibrations from the woofer cabinet to the WATT enclosure. An integrated bubble level on the Puppy ensures easy leveling during installation.

Capacitors

Unlike the simple, single-wound capacitors common 50 years ago, Wilson Audio uses multi-section RelCaps crafted with state-of-the-art machines and hand-finished. This proprietary process produces capacitors that are accurate, complex, consistent, and sonically superior.

Twin 8" Woofers

The WATT/Puppy includes the same 8” formed homogenous cellulose composite woofers as the Sasha V. These woofers provide an agile low-frequency response, ensuring an impactful and precise audio experience.

Material DNA

From 1986 to 2011, the WATT/Puppy underwent eight significant evolutions, each incorporating the best materials available at the time. These iterations continually pushed the boundaries of loudspeaker performance.

In the early years, Puppy enclosures were made from laminated 60-pound High-Density Fiberboard (HDF), while the WATT utilized Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA).

Thirteen years after the retirement of Series 8, the WATT/Puppy is now crafted with the most advanced versions of X-Material for the internal bracing and external enclosure, S-Material for midrange coupling to the front WATT baffle, and V-Material for the top of the Puppy, serving as the vibration-sink interface for the WATT.

Each of these materials is meticulously selected for its specific performance characteristics in vibration control and sound reproduction. This dedication to material excellence ensures that the WATT/Puppy delivers unparalleled audio quality for a design of its size.

Get a Grip

The rod handle on the rear of the original WATT was first designed in 1985 to provide David Wilson, founder of Wilson Audio and then a recording engineer, with a practical means to transport his custom-made studio monitors to recording sessions. This functional and robust handle has evolved for the WATT/Puppy. The current design is stylish, offering a secure and comfortable grip from any angle. Like the original, the new handle effortlessly supports the weight of the WATT during transportation and installation.

AudioCap Copper Capacitors

Wilson Audio's proprietary AudioCapX-WA capacitors are meticulously wound in-house by our Reliable Capacitors (RelCap) department to meet exceptionally tight tolerances. This precision enhances low-level resolution, revealing subtle sound nuances with remarkable clarity and depth.

Taking our commitment to sonic purity to the next level, we have developed a new copper version of the AudioCapX-WA capacitor. Initially introduced with the esteemed Sasha V series, this version is refined with copper end-spray and gold leads, ensuring that high-frequency micro-details are rendered with exquisite resolution.

Golden Anniversary

In celebration of Wilson Audio's 50th Anniversary, the commemorative medallion was crafted to honor five decades of Authentic Excellence in sound reproduction and craftsmanship. Available exclusively throughout 2024 on The WATT/Puppy during Wilson Audio's historic 50th celebration, this limited-edition medallion serves as a badge of honor for this remastered iconic design. The color of the medallion corresponds to the chosen hardware color for The WATT/Puppy. Whether Clear or Black hardware is selected, the medallion will reflect that finish. Additionally, a unique Red medallion will exclusively accompany red paint variations chosen for The WATT/Puppy, making this version the rarest of all.
