The Hana SL Mono MK II is a dedicated mono phono cartridge built for listeners who take their mono records seriously. Drawing on the same elite engineering advances as the SL MK II, Masao Okada-san has applied Hana's most refined materials and manufacturing processes to a cartridge purpose-designed for the unique demands of mono playback — delivering a level of clarity, accuracy, and musical engagement that a standard stereo cartridge simply cannot match.
A Two-Coil Design Built for Mono Precision
At the heart of the SL Mono MK II is a dedicated two-coil generator optimised exclusively for mono reproduction. Unlike stereo cartridges used in mono mode, this purpose-built architecture eliminates vertical tracking noise and channel-related artefacts inherent to repurposed stereo designs. The result is a quieter, cleaner, more focused presentation — one that honours the full musical intent of your mono pressings.
Paired with Hana's Shibata diamond stylus profile, the SL Mono MK II traces mono grooves with extraordinary precision, retrieving detail and texture that conventional stylus profiles leave behind.
A New Cantilever — Precision Where It Matters Most
The MK II upgrade introduces a new tapered aluminium cantilever with increased rigidity and reduced effective mass at the stylus tip. This refinement directly improves the transfer of groove modulation from vinyl to the generator — bringing greater speed, clarity, and musical resolution to every record in your mono collection.
Cryogenically Treated for Natural Sound
Critical internal components — including the Yoke, Pole-pieces, and gold terminal pins — have undergone cryogenic treatment, a process drawn from Hana's elite cartridge range. By relieving microscopic stress within the metal, this process yields a more open, natural, and composed sonic character that lets the music speak for itself.
A Body Built for Performance and Compatibility
The SL Mono MK II features an improved, non-resonant body shape modelled after the Hana M Series, damped with a matte soft-feel black elastomeric resin paint. A brass cap with threaded mounting fittings ensures secure, precise installation, while the slightly heavier mass improves tonearm coupling and expands compatibility across a wider range of arms — with direct benefits to bass weight and dynamic authority.
