The Bowers & Wilkins DB2D is a high-performance powered subwoofer designed to deliver deep, agile and precisely controlled bass for premium stereo and home theatre systems.

Twin 250 mm Aerofoil™ cone drivers operate in a balanced, opposed configuration, powered by a formidable 1,000-watt Class D Hypex amplifier. Advanced digital signal processing, Dynamic EQ and app-based room optimisation help the DB2D produce substantial low-frequency impact while maintaining the speed and definition required for music. 

Twin 250 mm Aerofoil Bass Drivers

The DB2D features two 250 mm Aerofoil cone drive units engineered to combine low weight with high rigidity.

The variable-thickness Aerofoil profile helps each driver resist unwanted flexing as it moves. This allows the subwoofer to reproduce powerful film effects, electronic bass and low musical notes with impressive accuracy, reducing distortion while preserving detail and timing. 

Balanced Opposed-Driver Configuration

The two bass drivers are positioned back-to-back on opposite sides of the enclosure.

As the drivers move, their mechanical forces counteract one another, helping cancel unwanted cabinet vibration. More of the amplifier’s power can therefore be directed into producing clean acoustic output rather than causing the enclosure to move or resonate.

This balanced design gives the DB2D substantial bass authority from a comparatively compact cabinet while helping it remain composed during demanding, high-output passages. 

Powerful 1,000-Watt Class D Amplifier

A built-in 1,000-watt Class D Hypex amplifier provides the power and control required to drive both Aerofoil cones.

Class D amplification delivers high efficiency and strong power output while keeping heat generation under control. Combined with the DB2D’s digital preamplifier, it helps the subwoofer respond quickly to changing bass signals and maintain definition during films, music and high-volume listening.

Low-Frequency Extension Down to 8.5 Hz

The DB2D has a published frequency range of 8.5 Hz to 500 Hz at -6 dB, with a frequency response of 10 Hz to 350 Hz at -3 dB, centred on the level at 100 Hz.

This exceptional extension allows it to reproduce ultra-low-frequency information that smaller subwoofers may not fully convey. Film soundtracks gain greater physical impact, while music benefits from additional depth, scale and low-frequency texture. 

Dynamic EQ for Balanced Performance

The DB2D’s digital preamplifier incorporates Dynamic EQ, helping the subwoofer maintain balanced, controlled performance across different listening levels.

Whether playing quietly or delivering the full impact of a cinematic soundtrack, the processing manages the relationship between the amplifier and drivers to preserve bass definition and tonal consistency. 

App-Based Setup and Room Optimisation

The dedicated Bowers & Wilkins DB Subwoofer app simplifies system setup and provides access to the DB2D’s room equalisation controls.

The app-based Room EQ system helps optimise performance for the subwoofer’s position and the acoustic characteristics of the room. It does not require a separate calibration microphone kit, making it easier to achieve well-integrated bass from a compatible iOS or Android device. Bluetooth Low Energy is used for setup and control. 

Engineered for Music and Home Theatre

The DB2D combines the output required for home cinema with the speed and precision needed for high-quality stereo playback.

In a home theatre system, it adds depth and physical impact to explosions, sound effects and film scores. In a two-channel system, it extends the bass response of the main speakers while retaining rhythm, definition and musical timing.

Flexible Audio and Control Connections

The DB2D offers balanced and unbalanced connections for integration with stereo preamplifiers, AV receivers, surround processors and custom-installed audio systems.

• RS-232 control through a nine-pin D connector

The DB2D’s reinforced enclosure provides a stable platform for its powerful opposed drivers.

Measuring 430 mm high, 377 mm wide and 360 mm deep, it delivers substantial bass output without requiring the footprint of a large conventional subwoofer cabinet. Its 36 kg construction provides the mass and rigidity needed for controlled low-frequency performance.
