Musical Fidelity M6xTT Turntable Review: A High-End Vinyl Experience for Discerning Audiophiles

Our Musical Fidelity M6xTT Turntable Review takes you inside the meticulously crafted world of belt-drive playback, exploring everything from the decoupled motor assembly to the 9-inch tonearm precision. Perfect for vinyl enthusiasts seeking professional-grade performance at a more accessible price point, the M6xTT brings legendary design philosophies to your listening room.

Musical Fidelity M6xTT Turntable

Design and Build Quality

Inspired by the legendary M1 turntable, the M6xTT blends inert metal alloys with zero-resonance acrylic to form a dual-chassis design. The non-resonant acrylic plinths house a 6.6 kg heavy-duty aluminium platter, while the motor sits decoupled on a specialised foam layer—ensuring mechanical vibration is banished before it reaches the tonearm. With height-adjustable magnetic feet and Teflon spacers for fine levelling, the M6xTT not only looks the part but also maintains surgical accuracy in playback.

Advanced Tonearm and Output

The 9-inch Musical Fidelity tonearm is a direct derivative of the M8xTT, featuring a transparent acrylic bearing ring and conical aluminium tube for ultra-low resonance. Fully adjustable in both azimuth and vertical tracking angle (VTA), it arrives with two TPE-damped counterweights and a streamlined headshell design. The direct 5P DIN output and included semi-balanced phono interconnect cable promise minimal signal loss and pristine channel separation.

Precision Motor and Platter

Under the hood, a precision DC-driven AC generator feeds the motor, creating perfectly stable 33 & 45 RPM speeds independent of mains quality. Electronic speed switching is at your fingertips, with wow & flutter rated at an ultra-tight ±0.08% (33 RPM) and ±0.07% (45 RPM). The one-piece, glue-free belt drives the 39 mm-thick, TPE-damped platter, offering inertia and damping optimised for low noise and consistent playback.

Isolation and Decoupling

Every element of the M6xTT is engineered to isolate unwanted vibrations. The dual acrylic plinths, TPE-damped aluminium feet with magnetic midsection, and ceramic-tipped inverted bearing combine to deliver a noise floor of –75 dB. Whether placed near a speaker or on a shelf, the M6xTT will faithfully reproduce your vinyl without adding colouration.

Sound Performance

The net result is a transparent, dynamic soundstage with a palpable sense of depth. The M6xTT excels at revealing inner detail in complex recordings, while maintaining a natural tonal balance. Bass lines are taut and controlled, midrange vocals are vivid and lifelike, and highs sparkle without sibilance. From jazz trios to orchestral works, the M6xTT renders music with an immediacy that invites long listening sessions.

Who Should Consider the M6xTT?

If you’re an audiophile seeking a turntable that bridges the gap between reference-class performance and accessible pricing, the M6xTT is your answer. It’s ideal for those upgrading from entry-level decks, vinyl collectors hunting for detail retrieval, or anyone building a high-end analogue rig. Pair it with a quality cartridge and a dedicated phono stage to unlock its full potential.
