Silver-plated conductors. Carbon-based noise dissipation. Hard-Cell Foam insulation. The AudioQuest Carbon USB-C to USB-C cable brings AudioQuest's most advanced USB technologies to the connection between your source device and DAC — for cleaner data transmission, reduced RF interference, and a meaningfully more musical digital audio experience.

The Digital Connection That Matters

A USB cable carrying audio data is doing something far more demanding than a USB cable carrying files. The quality of the electrical environment inside the cable — its conductor geometry, its insulation, its noise management — directly influences the jitter, RF noise, and timing accuracy of the audio data stream. And jitter and RF noise are two of the most consistent causes of digital audio sounding hard, fatiguing, or flat compared to the best analogue sources.

The AudioQuest Carbon USB-C to USB-C cable addresses this at every level — with Semi-Solid Concentric Silver-Plated conductors, Hard-Cell Foam Insulation, a multi-layer Carbon-Based Noise-Dissipation system, and Direction-Controlled conductor geometry — to deliver a USB audio connection that is meaningfully quieter, more accurate, and more musical than a generic cable.

Semi-Solid Concentric 5% Silver Conductors

At the heart of the Carbon's performance are its Semi-Solid Concentric 5% Silver conductors. The Semi-Solid Concentric geometry greatly reduces strand-interaction distortion — the micro-distortion generated when individual strands within a conductor move relative to each other and create varying contact impedances. This is a source of jitter and signal degradation that conventional stranded conductors cannot avoid.

The conductors are silver-plated — and for USB audio, this matters significantly. High-frequency signals like USB audio travel almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor rather than through its core — a phenomenon known as skin effect. By plating the conductor's surface with high-purity silver, AudioQuest ensures that the signal travels across the highest-conductivity material available. The result is performance very close to that of a 100% silver cable, at a price point much closer to copper — an exceptionally cost-effective approach to high-quality USB audio.

Carbon-Based Noise-Dissipation — Multiple Layers

The Carbon's negative conductors are covered with partially conductive Carbon-Loaded Polyethylene — a material that reduces radio-frequency garbage being fed back into the amplifier. The sonic benefit is a direct reduction in the "hash" and hardness that RF interference introduces, and an improvement in the dimensionality and natural character of the sound whenever digital audio is played.

The carbon treatment works on two levels: internally, a carbon layer damps the interaction between positive and negative conductors, reducing the RF energy that builds up within the cable's own geometry. Externally, a Carbon-Based Noise-Dissipation System addresses interference from outside the cable. The result is a cable that doesn't just carry signal — it actively manages the electrical environment that surrounds it.

Hard-Cell Foam Insulation — Nitrogen-Injected

Hard-Cell Foam (HCF) Insulation ensures critical signal-pair geometry. Any solid material adjacent to a conductor forms part of an imperfect electrical circuit — absorbing energy from the signal and releasing it as distortion. Hard-Cell Foam Insulation is nitrogen-injected to create air pockets within the insulation material. Because nitrogen — like air — neither absorbs nor releases energy from or into the conductor, it produces far less of the out-of-focus effect common to solid insulation materials, reducing distortion and improving the clarity and focus of the reproduced sound.

The stiffness of the HCF material provides an additional benefit: it maintains a stable geometric relationship between the cable's conductors along its full length, producing a consistent impedance character and minimising a further source of signal distortion.

Direction-Controlled Conductors

All drawn metal conductors have a non-symmetrical grain structure — and that non-symmetry produces a directional RF impedance variation that affects how noise is managed within the conductor. AudioQuest controls this directionality so that noise is consistently drained away from where it will cause distortion. The correct direction is determined by listening to every batch of metal conductors used in every AudioQuest cable — and arrows on the connectors ensure the cable is always installed in the optimised direction.

For the Carbon, Direction-Controlled Conductors are a fundamental component of the multifaceted Noise-Dissipation system — working alongside the carbon layers and HCF insulation to ensure induced noise is dissipated and drained properly at every point in the cable's signal path.

AudioQuest Carbon USB-C cable features

🥈 5% Silver Semi-Solid Concentric Conductors

Silver-plated for superior high-frequency performance — USB audio signals travel almost exclusively on the conductor's surface, making the silver plating as effective as a 100% silver cable at a fraction of the cost. Semi-Solid Concentric geometry minimises strand-interaction distortion and reduces jitter.

🖤 Multi-Layer Carbon-Based Noise-Dissipation

Carbon-Loaded Polyethylene on negative conductors, internal carbon layer between positive and negative, and external Carbon-Based NDS — three layers of noise management that reduce RF interference and the harshness it causes in digital audio.

💨 Hard-Cell Foam Insulation — Nitrogen-Injected

Nitrogen-injected air pockets in the insulation absorb no energy and release no distortion — maintaining critical signal-pair geometry and producing a more focused, cleaner audio signal than solid insulation materials.

🧭 Direction-Controlled Conductors

Every batch of metal conductors is listening-tested to determine the optimal direction — and arrows on the connectors ensure correct installation every time. A fundamental part of AudioQuest's multifaceted Noise-Dissipation approach.

Editorial Blockquote

"The sonic benefit is exactly the same reduction in 'hash' and improved dimensionality that comes whenever RF interference is reduced in an audio circuit." — AudioQuest
