At its core are two of Bel Canto's most advanced proprietary technologies: the HDR-II (High Dynamic Range II) DAC core and the AMiP (Asynchronous Multi-Input Processor) platform. Together, they handle every source you care to connect — Ethernet streaming, USB, AES, S/PDIF, TosLink, line level analogue, and a full MM/MC phono stage — and convert, process, and deliver each with an accuracy and musicality that reveals the full emotional weight of the recording.

HDR-II: Twenty Years of DAC Evolution

Bel Canto's High Dynamic Range II (HDR-II) core is the culmination of more than twenty years of digital-to-analogue design evolution. It achieves 126dB of dynamic range — higher than any analogue volume control could provide — ensuring completely transparent volume control at every listening level.

At the heart of HDR-II is a deliberate choice of Advanced Segment Technology DAC, combining multi-bit and delta-sigma technologies to deliver 132dB dynamic range with linear-phase digital filters. Operating in Constant Voltage, Class A Differential Current mode, it minimises distortion and maximises analogue purity. Ultra-Low Phase Noise Master Clocks run free from dedicated low-noise supplies, with two stages of asynchronous interfacing stripping jitter from every incoming digital source.

The result is a DAC that behaves in a true analogue fashion — with diminishing levels of distortion at lower output levels, where most music actually lives.

AMiP: Six Processors. Every Source. Zero Compromise.

The AMiP (Asynchronous Multi-Input Processor) platform is a powerful custom asynchronous core comprising six dedicated processors: two 32-bit XMOS general-purpose processors, two 32-bit ARM processors, and two dedicated audio processors. Together, they manage the Ethernet interface for Roon Ready and DLNA streaming, USB-A host input, USB2 24/384 input, legacy SPDIF/AES/TosLink digital inputs, and analogue line level and phono inputs — simultaneously and without compromise.

Dual free-running Ultra-Low Phase Noise Master Clocks direct all digital processing and strip incoming jitter from every external digital source. A 32-bit ARM core handles user interface and platform coordination. And custom Time Optimised Filters with integer up-sampling are designed to mimic the time domain response of an audio signal travelling through ten metres of open air — preserving the critical time relationships in the original music.

Pure Class A Differential Analogue Output

The E1X DC1's analogue output stage operates in pure Class A throughout. Large, constant-bias differential currents keep every precision resistor, film capacitor, and amplification device in thermal stasis — ensuring that all original signal dynamics are retained from input to output, without variation or compromise.

MM/MC Phono Stage

The dual-stage phono architecture begins with an ultra-low noise input RIAA amplifier with precision filter components and fixed 40dB gain, followed by a digitally controlled analogue variable gain stage accommodating a broad range of MM and MC cartridges. Input loading is fully configurable from the menu, allowing optimal impedance matching for MC cartridges. RIAA accuracy is ±0.25dB from 50Hz to 15kHz.

Headphone Output

A dedicated secondary DAC with 112dB dynamic range drives the headphone output through a high-current output buffer, capable of driving 32-ohm headphones to high levels with exceptional sonic detail and control.

Bass Management, Tilt & EQ

A custom 64-bit DSP engine embedded into the internal signal path enables Bel Canto's precision filter and equaliser functions — with no risk of noise, distortion, or response errors from traditional analogue filtering. The Tilt function adjusts high and low frequencies simultaneously around a 775Hz axis point, ideal for correcting tonal balance in sonically challenging recordings or rooms. Bass EQ provides ±3dB of control below 200Hz. Independent high-pass and low-pass filters (adjustable from 40Hz to 120Hz) enable seamless subwoofer integration. A user-configurable maximum volume setting prevents inadvertent damage to speakers.

The Ethernet connection enables over-the-network firmware updates at any time, ensuring the E1X DC1 is always running the latest software — without power cycling or manual intervention.
