ℹ Product Information

Bowers & Wilkins HTM82 D5 Reference Centre-Channel Speaker

Reference 800 Series Diamond Performance for Premium Home Theatre

The Bowers & Wilkins HTM82 D5 is a reference centre-channel speaker designed to deliver clear dialogue, precise effects and a cohesive front soundstage in premium home theatre systems.

Combining a Diamond dome tweeter, Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top, a dedicated Continuum™ cone FST™ midrange driver and twin Aerofoil™ bass drivers, the HTM82 D5 reproduces films, television and multichannel music with exceptional detail, control and tonal accuracy.

Its more compact design makes it the ideal centre-channel partner for the Bowers & Wilkins 803 D5 and 804 D5 floorstanding speakers, bringing 800 Series Diamond performance to rooms where the larger HTM81 D5 may not be practical.

Clear, Focused Dialogue

The centre channel reproduces much of the dialogue, vocals and on-screen action within a home theatre system. The HTM82 D5 uses a dedicated three-way configuration so that high, midrange and low frequencies are handled by specialised drive units.

This helps dialogue remain clear and naturally positioned at the centre of the screen, even when music, effects and bass information are playing simultaneously. Its broad frequency response and controlled dispersion also help create a seamless transition between the front left, centre and right speakers.

Diamond Dome Tweeter

The HTM82 D5 features Bowers & Wilkins’ renowned 25 mm Diamond dome tweeter, engineered to reproduce high frequencies with exceptional clarity and precision.

Diamond combines very low mass with outstanding stiffness, helping the tweeter maintain controlled behaviour across its operating range. Subtle soundtrack details, ambient effects and upper-frequency harmonics can be reproduced with openness and definition, without becoming harsh during demanding scenes.

Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top

Rather than mounting the tweeter inside the main cabinet, Bowers & Wilkins places it within a rigid Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top enclosure.

Separating the tweeter from the larger midrange and bass drivers helps isolate it from cabinet vibration. The elongated housing is also shaped to reduce unwanted diffraction around the tweeter, supporting sharper imaging and a clearer connection between dialogue and the action on screen.

Dedicated Continuum Cone Midrange Driver

A dedicated 130 mm Continuum cone FST midrange driver handles the critical frequencies occupied by voices and most musical instruments.

The Continuum cone is designed to behave smoothly across its operating range, reducing the abrupt resonances associated with some conventional cone materials. This helps voices sound natural and well defined while preserving subtle tonal details within film scores and multichannel music.

The driver is decoupled from the main enclosure to minimise interference from the twin bass drivers and cabinet vibration.

Biomimetic Suspension

The Continuum midrange driver incorporates Bowers & Wilkins’ Biomimetic Suspension technology.

This open suspension structure replaces the conventional fabric spider found in many loudspeaker drive units. By reducing unwanted air pressure and mechanical noise behind the cone, Biomimetic Suspension helps the midrange driver reproduce dialogue and instruments with greater transparency.

An Anti-Resonance plug provides additional control over driver behaviour, helping maintain clarity during complex or high-volume scenes.

Twin 165 mm Aerofoil Bass Drivers

Two 165 mm Aerofoil bass drivers provide the HTM82 D5 with the low-frequency authority required for cinematic soundtracks and multichannel music.

The Aerofoil cone profile is engineered to remain rigid as the drivers move. This helps reduce distortion and maintain definition when reproducing deep voices, film scores and powerful effects.

With a stated frequency range extending down to 33 Hz at -6 dB, the HTM82 D5 delivers substantial bass performance while remaining compact enough for many dedicated home theatre installations.

Matrix Cabinet Construction

The HTM82 D5 incorporates Bowers & Wilkins’ advanced Matrix™ internal bracing system.

Interlocking internal reinforcement helps strengthen the cabinet and reduce unwanted enclosure vibration. By providing a more stable foundation for the drive units, Matrix construction supports cleaner dialogue, improved definition and more accurate placement of effects across the front soundstage.

Flowport Bass Reflex Technology

Bowers & Wilkins’ Flowport™ bass-reflex technology helps the HTM82 D5 produce clean and controlled low frequencies.

The port’s carefully shaped surface is designed to reduce turbulence as air moves through the enclosure. This helps minimise unwanted port noise and compression, particularly during demanding action sequences and higher-volume playback.

Designed to Match the 803 D5 and 804 D5

The HTM82 D5 is the recommended centre-channel partner for the Bowers & Wilkins 803 D5 and 804 D5 floorstanding speakers.

Its Diamond tweeter, Continuum midrange driver and Aerofoil bass cones help maintain a consistent tonal character across the front channels. Dialogue, music and effects can therefore move between the left, centre and right speakers with greater continuity and realism.

Optional FS-HTM D5 Floor Stand

The HTM82 D5 can be positioned on the optional Bowers & Wilkins FS-HTM D5 floor stand.

Designed specifically for the HTM81 D5 and HTM82 D5 centre speakers, the stand provides a stable foundation and positions the speaker beneath a television or projection screen. The FS-HTM D5 is sold separately and is available in Black and Titanium finishes.
