The condition of your record grooves determines everything that follows. No matter how refined your turntable, cartridge or phono stage, the music they retrieve can only be as good as what is in the groove. The DS Audio SC-001 Sonic Cleaning Brush ensures that what is in the groove is exactly what was pressed there — nothing more, nothing less.
11,000 Vibrations Per Minute — Cleaning That Goes Where Ordinary Brushes Cannot
The SC-001 is not a conventional record brush. Its bristles vibrate at approximately 11,000 times per minute — a rate at which the brush does something no static brush can achieve: it physically loosens and lifts fine dust particles from deep within the record groove, rather than simply pushing them aside or redistributing them across the record surface.
Ordinary brushes rely on sweeping action alone. For dust sitting loosely on the surface this can be sufficient, but for fine particles clinging to the groove walls — the particles that most directly affect stylus tracking and sound quality — sweeping is ineffective. The SC-001's sonic vibration reaches where conventional brushes cannot, releasing deeply embedded dust and leaving the groove genuinely clean. With the groove restored, the record's original sound is brought back to life.
Measurement-Driven Material Selection
The brush material used in the SC-001 was not chosen by intuition or convention — it was determined through rigorous, quantitative analysis. DS Audio used high-sensitivity cameras to visualise dust particles on record surfaces, measuring residual dust levels before and after cleaning across multiple candidate brush materials. Each material was assessed based on its actual dust removal rate under real vibration conditions — because the optimal material for vibration-based cleaning can only be identified through testing under vibration itself.
Only the material demonstrating the highest measured dust removal performance was adopted. This data-driven approach, from material selection onwards, is the foundation of the SC-001's exceptional cleaning performance — which in DS Audio's comparative testing exceeded that of competitor brushes evaluated alongside it.
Dual Static Suppression — Addressing Both the Cause and the Effect
Static charge on records is a persistent problem that ordinary cleaning brushes frequently make worse. In comparative testing, conventional brushes without anti-static functionality showed little reduction in static charge — and in some cases, friction from the brush actually increased it. Even brushes with dedicated anti-static features achieved only partial reduction, falling short of complete elimination.
The SC-001 addresses this through a carefully considered two-stage approach:
Stage 1 — Prevention: The low-charging bristle material suppresses new static generation at the source. By selecting a material that inherently generates minimal charge through friction, the SC-001 avoids adding static to the record during the cleaning process itself.
Stage 2 — Discharge: Conductive fibers integrated at the rear of the vibration drive unit actively discharge existing static charge already present on the record surface — addressing the charge that builds up when records are removed from their sleeves and during handling.
Together, these two mechanisms provide a more complete approach to static management than either technique alone can achieve.
Replaceable Brush Head
The SC-001's brush head is user-replaceable, ensuring the cleaning performance that DS Audio's measurement process validated can be maintained over the long term without replacing the entire unit. When the brush head reaches the end of its service life, simply replace it and the SC-001 continues performing at its original standard.
