Design Philosophy: Loudspeaker and Room in Harmony

At Estelon, every loudspeaker is designed to work with the listening space, not against it. Walls, floors, ceilings, and furnishings all influence how music is perceived, and the YB Mk II is engineered to interact naturally with these elements.

The goal is to create synergy between loudspeaker and environment, allowing music to unfold with realism, balance, and emotional depth—exactly as intended.

Advanced Cabinet Technology

The YB Mk II utilises a sealed-box cabinet design, offering a compact form that is less demanding in placement than bass reflex alternatives. This approach provides tight, controlled bass performance while maintaining excellent integration in smaller or acoustically challenging rooms.

The cabinet is formed from Estelon’s proprietary marble-based composite material, shaped using advanced moulding techniques. The result is a dense, rigid, and acoustically inert structure that suppresses resonance and preserves tonal purity.

Driver Configuration & Placement

The Estelon YB Mk II features a carefully considered driver layout designed to enhance performance in real-world listening spaces.

Angled Woofer Design

The 220 mm aluminium woofer is positioned at an inward angle, facing the opposite speaker. This unique configuration helps reduce midrange reflections from nearby walls, particularly in smaller rooms, while improving stereo image stability in the lower frequencies up to 220 Hz.

In certain challenging acoustic environments, reversing left and right speaker placement can further optimise performance.

High-Performance Driver Selection

• Tweeter:
  A 26 mm beryllium dome Illuminator tweeter from Scan-Speak, offering exceptional stiffness, extremely low mass, low distortion, and precise impulse response. Breakup modes occur beyond the range of human hearing, ensuring clean and extended high-frequency reproduction.

• Mid-woofer:
  A 148 mm sliced paper cone from Scan-Speak’s Revelator series. Proprietary damping glue applied between the cone slices reduces distortion and smooths frequency response, delivering natural, realistic midrange performance with minimal colouration.

• Woofer:
  A 220 mm aluminium cone woofer from SEAS, featuring a lightweight diaphragm, long excursion, and low-loss rubber surround to suppress edge resonance and maintain bass precision.

Dedicated Internal Chambers

Each driver operates within its own optimised internal enclosure, shaped to eliminate standing waves and reduce vibration.

• The tweeter and mid-woofer share an isolated upper chamber

• The woofer is housed in a separate sealed enclosure

• All chambers are fully damped and structurally reinforced for optimal performance

This architecture ensures clarity, control, and seamless integration across the entire frequency range.

Precision Crossover Design

The YB Mk II crossover network is engineered for accuracy, consistency, and musical coherence.

• Crossover points: 80 Hz and 2 kHz

• Third-order filters between woofer and mid-woofer

• Second-order filters between mid-woofer and tweeter

Premium components include custom transformer-core coils, oxygen-free copper air-core inductors, SESGO capacitors, and Mundorf wire-wound Supreme resistors. All parts are measured and matched in pairs to ensure consistency between speakers.

The crossover is constructed using point-to-point wiring with high-grade solder, and all signal paths are kept as short as possible. Internal cabling is provided by Kubala-Sosna, renowned for exceptional transparency and signal integrity.

To minimise vibration and microphonic effects, the crossover is housed inside the woofer chamber. Each network undergoes thorough electrical testing and critical listening evaluation before final assembly.
