ℹ Product Information
Absolute versatility. Authentic sound. The Gold Note PH-5.2 is a fully discrete, dual-output MM/MC phono preamplifier with a colour touchscreen interface, three selectable EQ curves (RIAA, Decca London, American Columbia — each with Enhanced extension to 50kHz), nine input impedance settings, two cartridge memory positions, balanced XLR and RCA outputs, and an infrasonic filter. A complete design evolution from Florence, Italy.
Absolute Versatility. Authentic Sound.
High fidelity is not a sound signature. It is a responsibility towards the original recording. This conviction sits at the heart of the Gold Note PH-5.2 — a phono preamplifier that represents a complete design evolution, not a simple update of its predecessor, and the mature expression of Gold Note's philosophy of analogue reproduction at its most considered and complete.
Built in Florence, Italy, and drawing direct lineage from Gold Note's flagship PH-1000 and PH-10 phono stages, the PH-5.2 brings the same philosophy — faithfully reconstructing the original context of every recording — into a more compact and accessible form. It is suitable for any analogue system, with any cartridge, from any era of vinyl production. And it achieves this without compromise: fully discrete audio components, a colour touchscreen interface, balanced and unbalanced outputs, three selectable equalisation curves in standard and Enhanced form, nine input impedance settings, and the ability to store and recall two cartridge configurations instantly.
This is what a serious phono stage looks like.
A Complete Design Evolution — New Chassis, New Power Supply, New Interface
The PH-5.2 arrives in a new aesthetic language exclusive to the Gold Note Linea 5.2 — a black anodised sandblasted aluminium chassis, designed specifically to minimise interaction with magnetic fields, creating a more stable electrical and mechanical environment. The result is lower background noise, improved micro-detail, and a more natural, composed listening character.
The new enhanced power supply delivers greater dynamic control, a cleaner high range, and a relaxed yet authoritative presentation — maintaining consistency and coherence even in the most dynamically complex musical passages.
The colour touchscreen interface brings a clearer layout, quicker adjustments, and immediate access to every function — including load, gain, and equalisation — without interrupting playback. All settings changes are executed by high-quality relays, without introducing digital circuitry into the audio path. The interface serves the music, not the other way around.
Authentic Analogue Purity — Discrete Throughout
The PH-5.2's audio signal path is built entirely with discrete audio components, designed to minimise signal distances and eliminate potential interference at every stage. This commitment to analogue purity — where the signal path remains free of digital processing — preserves signal integrity and extracts the finest recorded details from every groove.
High-quality relays execute all switching functions selected via the display without contaminating the audio path. What you hear is the cartridge, the record, and the music — exactly as Gold Note's engineers believe it should be.
Three EQ Curves — Standard and Enhanced
Every record ever pressed was not equalised to the RIAA standard. Before the RIAA curve was adopted as the universal standard in 1954, different record labels used their own proprietary equalisation curves — each with its own bass and treble characteristics that a RIAA-only phono stage cannot correctly reconstruct.
The PH-5.2 addresses this directly. Three selectable equalisation curves — RIAA, Decca London, and American Columbia — allow correct playback of records from any era and any label, respecting the balance, dynamics, and character that the cutting engineer intended. Each curve is also available in an Enhanced version — Gold Note's proprietary technology, inspired by the studies of Georg Neumann — extending the frequency response up to 50kHz and increasing dynamics, extension, and realism for recordings that reward it.
Two Cartridge Memory Positions — MM and MC
The PH-5.2 can store two complete cartridge configurations — one MM and one MC — accessible instantly by selecting MM/MC in the Settings menu. No need to re-enter load, gain, or capacitance settings when switching between a moving magnet and moving coil cartridge: the PH-5.2 remembers both, and recalls them at the press of a button.
Input sensitivity covers 0.1mV (MC) to 10.0mV (MM), with nine input impedance settings (10Ω through 47kΩ) and gain adjustable in four steps (0dB, +3dB, ±6dB relative to the fixed 40dB MM / 60dB MC base), making the PH-5.2 compatible with virtually any moving magnet or moving coil cartridge in use today.
Balanced XLR and RCA Outputs — 50Ω Output Impedance
Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs ensure compatibility with any preamplifier or integrated amplifier, with a low 50Ω output impedance for clean, high-quality signal transfer over any cable length. An infrasonic filter at 10Hz/36dB per octave protects downstream amplification from sub-sonic rumble and warp tones.
Feature Cards
🎛️ Three EQ Curves + Enhanced — RIAA, Decca London, American Columbia
Correct equalisation for any record from any era — RIAA for post-1954 pressings, Decca London and American Columbia for vintage records, each with an Enhanced option extending response to 50kHz for greater dynamics, extension, and realism.
📱 Colour Touchscreen — Two Cartridge Memories
A clear, intuitive colour touchscreen provides real-time access to all settings without interrupting playback. Store one MM and one MC cartridge configuration — recall either instantly from the Settings menu.
⚡ Fully Discrete Signal Path — Relay Switching
A completely discrete analogue audio signal path with zero digital circuitry. High-quality relays execute all settings changes without touching the signal — preserving absolute analogue purity from input to output.
🏗️ New Black Anodised Aluminium Chassis
Designed to minimise magnetic field interaction and reduce background noise — paired with an enhanced power supply for greater dynamic control, a cleaner high range, and a relaxed, authoritative sound. Designed and built in Florence, Italy.
