ℹ Product Information
150 watts. SoundEngine2. Two balanced XLR inputs. A damping factor of more than 4000. The Hegel A200 is The Classic — a fully analogue integrated amplifier built for those who value simplicity, purpose, and a dedicated signal path. No DAC. No streaming. Just amplification, done with total conviction.
The Classic Route
There are two ways to approach a modern hi-fi system. The Hegel A200 represents the second path — not the simpler one, but the more focused one. An integrated amplifier built to remain exactly that: an amplifier. The Classic.
No DAC. No streaming section. No digital inputs. Just carefully executed analogue amplification with 150 watts per channel, Hegel's SoundEngine2 distortion cancellation, and a damping factor of more than 4000 — all applied to a single, clear purpose. The A200 does not decide the front end of your system. Its job is to give each source component a stable, clean, and powerful analogue foundation, allowing every connected source to perform at its best with its own character, detail, and dynamics intact.
There are many reasons to choose an amplifier without built-in digital functions. Some listeners already own a DAC they love. Some use a separate streamer. Some build their systems around vinyl, CD, radio, or other source components. Others simply prefer a system where each product has one clear job. The A200 is built for all of them.
Built on Control — SoundEngine2
At the heart of the A200 is a 150W Class A/B analogue amplifier section — the same core platform as the H200, focused entirely on amplification. The watt rating only tells part of the story. What matters just as much is how the amplifier behaves when driving real loudspeakers with real music.
The A200 uses Hegel's SoundEngine2 technology to reduce distortion in real time. Instead of correcting errors after they have already passed through the amplifier, SoundEngine2 detects distortion where it occurs and cancels it before it can travel further through the signal path. Combined with stability down to 2-ohm loads, the result is an amplifier that remains clean, composed, and controlled — even when the music becomes complex or the loudspeaker load becomes demanding.
A damping factor of more than 4000 gives the A200 firm control over the loudspeaker drivers. Bass notes start and stop with precision. Rhythms become easier to follow. The entire presentation gains clarity because low-frequency energy is kept in order. This is not control for its own sake. It is control in service of the music.
Analog Connections — Every Input Matters
In the A200, every input is analogue. Two high-performance balanced XLR inputs and two unbalanced RCA inputs make it easy to connect high-quality external sources — DACs, CD players, streamers, tuners, or any other source component with an analogue output.
The output side is just as useful. A fixed RCA line output can feed a recorder or a second system. A variable RCA line output makes it possible to connect a subwoofer or external power amplifier with volume controlled by the A200. A high-quality headphone output makes private listening part of the same amplifier. The A200 is simple in concept, yet flexible in use.
A Phono Stage Worth Using
The A200 includes a dedicated Moving Magnet phono input based on the MM section of Hegel's standalone V10 phono stage, using hand-matched FET transistor gain stages together with carefully selected op-amps. Designed for low noise, precision, and musicality, it is not a checklist feature — it is a high-performance input that Hegel is happy to recommend.
This matters especially in a fully analogue amplifier. A system built around vinyl deserves a phono stage that takes the format seriously. The A200 does.
Made to Live With
A core Hegel belief is that a good amplifier should not demand attention every time it is used. The A200 includes practical functions designed to make the system behave naturally and predictably.
Each input can be assigned a fixed volume level, making it easy to integrate the A200 into a home theatre system or any setup where volume is controlled externally. The A200 can also learn volume commands from a TV remote — meaning systems built around an external DAC or AV receiver can still be controlled from the remote already used every day. Startup volume and maximum volume settings prevent unexpected volume jumps. Auto standby reduces unnecessary power consumption. Display dimming is automatic and fully customisable, allowing the display to be bright when needed, dimmed during normal listening, or turned off completely in a dark room.
The A200 is designed to be used, not managed.
The Classic Route
The A200 offers the same core amplifier performance as its connected sibling — the H200 — but takes a different route. It leaves DAC, streaming, and digital source choices entirely to the listener, while focusing all of its engineering on analogue amplification, loudspeaker control, and daily usability.
Not because fewer features automatically make a better product. Because when an amplifier has one clear role, each source connected to it is given the space to show what it can do.
The A200 is the classic route to the same goal Hegel has always pursued.
Nothing added. Nothing taken away. Just music.
Feature Cards
⚡ SoundEngine2 — Real-Time Distortion Cancellation
Hegel's proprietary SoundEngine2 detects distortion where it occurs and cancels it before it can travel further through the signal path — delivering 150W of amplification that is clean, composed, and controlled, with a damping factor of more than 4000 and stability down to 2-ohm loads.
⚖️ Fully Analogue — Two Balanced XLR Inputs
No DAC. No streaming. No digital inputs. Two balanced XLR inputs and two unbalanced RCA inputs give every external source component — DAC, CD player, streamer, turntable — a stable, clean, and powerful analogue foundation.
🎙️ MM Phono Stage — From the V10
A Moving Magnet phono input drawn from Hegel's standalone V10 phono stage — hand-matched FET transistor gain stages, carefully selected op-amps, designed for low noise, precision, and musicality. Not a checklist feature: a phono stage that takes vinyl seriously.
🔧 Simple by Design — Flexible in Use
Fixed volume per input. TV remote volume learning. Variable and fixed RCA line outputs. Headphone output. Auto standby. Fully customisable display dimming. The A200 is designed to be used, not managed.
