ℹ Product Information
Compact. Purposeful. Digitally optimised. The Mission 778CDT is a dedicated CD transport with a custom high-end mechanism, TCXO master clock, dedicated low-noise power supplies, coaxial and optical SPDIF outputs, and USB-HDD playback — engineered for pure signal delivery and seamless integration with any high-quality DAC.
The Mission 778X marked the brand's celebrated return to integrated amplification after more than three decades — a compact, powerful amplifier that redefined expectations at its price point and became a modern classic. The 778CDT brings the same philosophy to CD playback: focused design, uncompromising engineering, and music as the priority.
Housed in the same elegant, compact half-width chassis and striking retro form as the 778X, the 778CDT completes the 778 Series as its dedicated CD transport — a digital-first device built for audio purity and seamless system integration. Together with the 778X integrated amplifier and 778S speakers, it forms a complete, modular, stackable hi-fi ecosystem designed for serious listening without unnecessary complexity.
Custom Mechanism & TCXO Master Clock
At the heart of the 778CDT is a high-end CD mechanism with a precision optical system and servo control, engineered for stable disc rotation, accurate tracking, and robust error correction. The master clock is a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) — chosen specifically to minimise jitter and deliver a clean, stable SPDIF signal to the connected DAC, regardless of environmental temperature variations that affect lesser crystal designs.
True to Mission's engineering philosophy, the design avoids unnecessary complexity. The key circuit functions — transport, laser, decoder, and master clock — are each powered by dedicated low-noise supplies, minimising interference and preserving signal integrity throughout the playback chain. The result is a digital output that remains faithful to the source, allowing any connected DAC to perform at its absolute best.
Coaxial & Optical SPDIF — Pure Digital Delivery
Digital output is provided via both coaxial and optical SPDIF interfaces, ensuring compatibility with the internal DAC of the Mission 778X or any high-quality external DAC system. The coaxial output delivers 500mVpp into 75Ω — a clean, well-specified signal. Frequency response is an extraordinary –0.01dB from 20Hz to 20kHz referenced to 1kHz — testament to the precision of the TCXO clocking and low-noise design.
USB-HDD Playback — Beyond the Disc
The 778CDT extends its role beyond physical disc playback with USB storage device support. FLAC, WAV, MP3, WMA, AAC, and APE files stored on USB devices are handled using the same precision TCXO clocking and low-noise architecture as CD playback — FAT16, FAT32, and exFAT file systems are all supported. The OLED display with CD text support presents track and disc information clearly. A fully functioning remote control — also compatible with the Mission 778X and 778S — completes the picture.
Part of a Complete System
The 778CDT is designed to live and breathe with the Mission 778 Series — compact, stackable, and perfectly proportioned alongside the 778X and 778S. But its dual digital outputs and versatile USB playback make it an equally compelling standalone transport for any high-quality DAC-based system, from a simple desktop setup to a fully separate source and amplification chain.
