Silent Angel Streaming Platform — Stability, Fidelity, Versatility

At the heart of the 778S is a streaming platform developed in collaboration with Silent Angel — established masters in high-end digital audio streaming. A custom implementation of the Silent Angel streaming engine, optimised by Mission's engineers, delivers superior fidelity, rock-solid stability, and the versatility that modern listeners demand. Powered by a hexa-core RK3399 processor (dual ARM Cortex-A72 @ 2.0GHz + quad ARM Cortex-A53 @ 1.5GHz), the platform handles every streaming scenario with effortless composure.

The Mission 778S app carries the full power of the Silent Angel ecosystem — streaming directly from Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, TuneIn Radio, AirPlay 2, DLNA, and USB storage devices from a sleek, responsive interface. For advanced users, the 778S is fully Roon Ready — certified for bit-perfect playback and seamless integration over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, with no additional configuration required.

ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M — 32-Bit HyperStream DAC

The 778S features the ESS Technology ES9038Q2M Reference DAC — one of the most respected DAC chips in high-end audio — employing 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator technology for ultra-low noise and exceptional signal integrity. All incoming audio is precision upsampled to 352.8kHz or 384kHz, pushing digital artefacts beyond the audible spectrum and allowing the DAC to operate in its optimal linear range.

The result is cleaner transients, greater dynamic nuance, and a more natural soundstage — music with space, texture, and presence, not through excess processing but through careful engineering. Five selectable DAC reconstruction filters allow sonic tailoring to personal preference and source quality — especially useful given the variable quality of different streaming services and digital formats.

Performance figures: THD below 0.001% at 1kHz, SNR greater than 116dB (RCA) and 120dB (XLR), frequency response ±0.5dB from 20Hz to 20kHz.

Balanced XLR & Full Analogue Output — DSD-Ready

The 778S's analogue output section goes beyond what most streaming DACs at this level offer. Balanced XLR outputs (4.1Vrms at 0dBFS) unlock the full potential of high-resolution formats including DSD, bypassing the sample-rate limitations of digital SPDIF connections and delivering the lowest possible noise floor over longer cable runs. RCA outputs (2.05Vrms) are equally well-specified. Both pairs are variable for direct connection to power amplifiers or active speakers.

Maximum PCM resolution via DAC: 768kHz/32-bit. DSD support extends to DSD64 and DSD128 natively, DSD256 via DoP, and DSD512 via USB-C PC input.

Headphone Amplifier — A Complete Personal Listening Hub

The 778S includes an onboard headphone amplifier capable of driving headphones from 20 to 600 ohms — from sensitive in-ear monitors to demanding planar magnetics — with a THD below 0.01% at 1kHz and an output impedance of just 2.35 ohms for tight, controlled bass and precise imaging. Whether for private late-night listening or critical headphone evaluation, the 778S delivers a performance that rivals standalone headphone amplifiers — making it a complete listening hub in both the hi-fi and head-fi domains.

Digital Outputs & Complete Connectivity

Coaxial and optical digital outputs (500mVpp, 75Ω, up to 192kHz/24-bit) allow the 778S to be used as a high-quality transport with any external DAC. Two USB-A outputs provide USB Audio output for DACs and headphone amplifiers. Inputs include a USB-C PC USB interface for computer audio, Gigabit Ethernet, and three USB-A ports (two for storage, one for firmware update). A 2.23-inch OLED display presents track and playback information clearly.
