True Red Book CD Player — Optimised for One Job

The Red Book standard defines the physical parameters and properties of Digital Audio Compact Discs (CD-DA). Pure CD players, designed specifically for this standard rather than repurposed from DVD or Blu-ray mechanisms, are consistently better at reproducing stereo CDs — because their drives are optimised for 1:1 playback of Red Book audio rather than adapted from multi-format mechanisms with different design priorities.

The B1xCD's drive is specifically optimised for 1:1 Red Book CD-DA playback, with a low-vibration disc mechanism mounting that dramatically reduces jitter and extraneous noise. Protected by a robust metal cover, it extracts every nuance encoded on a Red Book audio CD with exceptional precision — because the mechanical foundation of CD playback directly determines the quality of everything downstream.

BlueTiger™ CD-88 Servo — The Brain of the System

A CD drive is only as good as the servo system that controls it. The servo manages every aspect of disc tracking — and errors can occur at every stage: physical damage on the disc surface, inaccurate optical pickup readout, mechanical vibration from the chassis, and data connection noise between the laser unit and DAC. Advanced error correction and predictive algorithms are an absolute necessity for perfect CD playback.

The B1xCD uses the BlueTiger™ CD-88 servo, developed by SUOS — a continued refinement of the original CD-80 board, representing the latest developments in absolute high-end CD readout. The CD-88 is widely regarded as the most advanced servo of its type on the market, setting the industry standard and positioning itself far above any other solution currently available. This is the servo that Musical Fidelity has chosen as the heart of the B1xCD — because even the finest DAC cannot compensate for poorly read data.

ESS9018Q2M DAC — 112dB SNR, <0.003% THD

The B1xCD's ESS9018Q2M DAC extracts the full resolution of the Red Book format with exceptional precision. A signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 112dB (A-weighted), channel separation greater than 96dB across the full 20Hz–20kHz range, THD below 0.003%, and a frequency response within 0.2dB from 20Hz to 20kHz confirm the technical standard of the conversion stage. The RCA analogue output delivers 2.1V RMS nominal at 0dBFS into a 10kΩ load — well specified for any preamplifier or integrated amplifier input.

Coaxial and optical SPDIF digital outputs allow the B1xCD to serve as a high-precision CD transport feeding an external DAC, extending its flexibility for those who wish to use it alongside a dedicated digital-to-analogue converter.
