ℹ Product Information

A major reinvention of the M5 formula — the M5xi brings TITAN-derived dual monoblock topology to a new price point. 160W per channel into 8Ω / 240W into 4Ω, Burr-Brown stepped attenuator, new MM/MC phono stage, HDMI eARC, USB-C 24/192, isolated USB-A streamer power output, RS232 control and HT bypass. The TITAN formula, more accessible than ever.

The TITAN Formula at a New Price Point

The Musical Fidelity M5xi is not an incremental update. It is a major reinvention of the M5 formula — one that fundamentally changes what is possible at its price point. The preamp, power amplifier, digital and phono sections are completely new, and now share the same TITAN-derived topology previously found in the M6si, incorporating all the improvements developed for the M6xi. Tuned for a slightly lower power output, but identical in architecture and engineering philosophy, the M5xi makes Musical Fidelity's most sophisticated amplifier design more accessible than ever before.

For listeners who have been waiting for the TITAN formula at a price point that fits their system — the M5xi is the answer.

Son of TITAN — Fully Discrete Dual Monoblock Power Amplifier

The defining change from the M5si is the M5xi's entirely new amplifier topology. Configured as two fully independent monoblock power amplifiers sharing a common chassis with a separate preamplifier, the M5xi is — in essence — a preamplifier with two dedicated monoblock amplifiers. Technology trickled down directly from the legendary 1kW TITAN power amplifier underpins every aspect of its design.

At its core lies a low-distortion Darlington output stage in the classic Musical Fidelity configuration — eliminating crossover artefacts while maintaining extremely low residual distortion and preserving musical detail across the entire frequency range. Two pairs of output devices per channel, an encapsulated toroidal transformer and all-analogue power supplies during operation combine to deliver a cleaner signal path, reduced high-frequency noise and minimised EMC interference.

With 160 watts per channel into 8Ω and 240 watts into 4Ω continuous — and peak power reaching 190W and 320W respectively — the M5xi possesses extraordinary headroom and current capability. You will struggle to find loudspeakers that the M5xi cannot properly and fully drive. Low-impedance dips are handled with complete composure.

A new, carefully optimised PCB layout minimises circuit imbalances that would otherwise require corrective feedback, allowing the amplifier to operate more naturally and transparently. The main transformer and power supply PCB are now encapsulated within a dedicated metal enclosure, dramatically reducing electromagnetic interference inside the chassis and benefiting every circuit in the amplifier.

Preamplifier — Absolute Signal Integrity

The M5xi's preamplifier is a fully analogue, low-noise design built for absolute signal integrity across the full dynamic range. Volume control is handled by a high-quality Burr-Brown stepped attenuator — delivering more precise channel matching than any conventional potentiometer design, with perfectly balanced stereo imaging and consistent tonal accuracy at every listening level.

THD+N of less than 0.009% and a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 105dB A-weighted ensure that microdetail and harmonic accuracy are preserved whether the M5xi is operating at whisper-quiet levels or full-scale output. Effortless clarity, stable imaging and uncompromised musical realism are the result.

New MM/MC Phono Stage — A Significant Upgrade

The M5xi introduces a completely new phono stage — a major step forward from the M5si, which offered MM support only. The new stage adds full MC cartridge compatibility alongside the MM input, representing a meaningful upgrade for vinyl enthusiasts who want to explore the full range of cartridge options.

Improved circuit design and layout, combined with enhanced isolation and shielding, significantly reduce noise and distortion. The encapsulated transformer and power supply PCB protect the phono circuitry — which operates at amplification factors of up to 1,000× — from even the smallest electromagnetic interference. The result is a phono stage capable of revealing the full warmth, depth and dynamic nuance of high-quality vinyl recordings, regardless of cartridge type.

Modern Connectivity — Built for Today's Systems

The M5xi's connectivity suite has been comprehensively expanded:

  • HDMI eARC — single-cable connection to TVs and home theatre systems, bringing the M5xi's powerful analogue stages to bear on television and streaming audio
  • USB-C input — high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/192kHz, with a meticulously optimised digital layout to minimise high-frequency interference within the chassis
  • Optical and Coaxial digital inputs — versatile connectivity for digital sources
  • Isolated USB-A 5V/2A power output — a dedicated, ultra-clean power supply with its own transformer winding and linear power supply stage, allowing USB streamers to be powered directly from the M5xi for a genuine performance improvement
  • RS232 interface — for custom installation and professional system control
  • Trigger In & Out — for system automation
  • Home Theatre Bypass (HT input) — bypasses the preamplifier stage entirely for seamless integration with AV processors, enabling the M5xi to serve as a high-performance stereo power amplifier for left and right channels in a multichannel system
  • 4× RCA line inputs — comprehensive analogue source connectivity
  • MM/MC phono input — new, with improved shielding and optimised circuit design
  • Variable Pre-Out — for bi-amping or active subwoofer connection
  • Fixed Line Out (Tape) — ideal for connection to a dedicated headphone amplifier

Digital boards are physically separated on their own PCBs with dedicated linear power supplies, ensuring that RF interference from digital sources never compromises the analogue signal path.

Heroic Build Quality

The M5xi's front panel is milled from a massive extruded aluminium profile in the finest Musical Fidelity tradition, delivering exceptional immunity to environmental vibration. The metal chassis acts as a Faraday cage — protecting the internal circuitry from external electromagnetic fields while shielding the rest of your system from any fields generated by the M5xi itself.

New Remote Control

The M5xi introduces a significantly redesigned remote control — elegant, lightweight and comfortable to use, thoughtfully colour-coded in Musical Fidelity's distinctive brand palette. Designed for universal compatibility across the M-line range, including amplifiers, CD players and DACs, it brings effortless command of your entire system to a single, beautifully designed controller. New standby and mute functions are accessible directly from the remote.
