ℹ Product Information

Master the groove. The Ortofon MC X50 is the most advanced expression of the MC X platform — combining a nude Micro Ridge diamond stylus, boron cantilever, Ortofon-exclusive rubber suspension, and quad pure silver coils for the highest level of tracking stability, lowest distortion, and most precise retrieval of recorded detail in the series.

Master the Groove

With the MC X50, the MC X Series reaches its most advanced implementation. Building on the established MC X platform, the MC X50 introduces a refined combination of stylus and cantilever designed to achieve a higher level of control and consistency in groove tracing — the meeting point of precision engineering and musical truth.

At the core is a nude Micro Ridge diamond, engineered for precise contact with the groove wall and accurate tracing of fine modulations, particularly at high frequencies and across inner grooves where lesser stylus profiles begin to lose their grip on the recorded detail. This is paired with a boron cantilever — a material chosen for its exceptional combination of high stiffness and low moving mass — providing fast and controlled response to signal variations without the inertia that compromises timing and transient precision.

A rubber suspension, designed and produced in-house by Ortofon using a newly developed compound specific to the MC X50, plays a central role in its performance — working in balance with the Micro Ridge stylus and boron cantilever to ensure stable tracking and consistent groove contact across the full dynamic range of any recording.

The MC X Series — A New Benchmark in Moving Coil Design

In the world of vinyl playback, the cartridge is where the journey begins. A pivotal point where music rises from the groove and transforms into immersive soundscapes. With the MC X Series, Ortofon sets a new benchmark in MC cartridge design — pushing premium Moving Coil technology to unprecedented levels of performance through a combination of newly developed mechanical architectures, premium materials, and in-house manufacturing disciplines that no off-the-shelf component approach can replicate.

Pure Silver Coil System

All MC X cartridges feature coils wound with high-purity silver wire. Silver's superior conductivity — compared to the copper wire used in most moving coil cartridges — ensures exceptional signal clarity, delivering sound with unmatched precision and preserving every detail without interference. The MC X50's quad coil configuration maximises the benefits of the silver wire, extracting every last degree of signal from the generator with the consistency and purity that high-resolution vinyl playback demands.

Newly Developed Magnet System

The MC X Series introduces a newly developed magnet system featuring a one-piece pole cylinder integrated into a rear magnet yoke — engineered for maximum magnetic efficiency. Paired with the pure silver coils, this configuration ensures a clean, powerful signal path that elevates overall performance above what a conventional magnet arrangement can deliver. Every element of the generator architecture has been engineered as a cohesive system, not an assembly of available parts.

Custom-Developed Rubber Dampers — In-House

In-house produced and developed rubber compounds form the core of the MC X Series' mechanical damping system. Rubber dampers are essential for controlling the physical movement of the coils — maintaining stability, minimising unwanted vibrations, and enabling precise coil motion that translates directly into superior tracking, reduced distortion, and musical accuracy.

For the MC X50, a newly developed rubber suspension featuring a newly formulated compound has been specifically engineered — working in concert with the Micro Ridge stylus and boron cantilever to deliver the tracking stability and dynamic consistency that this level of stylus and cantilever demands.

The Most Advanced Expression of the MC X Platform

The MC X50 represents the highest expression of the MC X platform — and of what Ortofon's engineers have been able to achieve through the combination of materials, geometry, and in-house manufacturing that defines this series. By combining a Micro Ridge stylus profile with a boron cantilever and a dedicated suspension system, it achieves the highest level of tracking stability, lowest distortion, and most precise retrieval of recorded detail within the series.

At 0.4mV output, the MC X50 is matched to any quality MC phono stage with a recommended load resistance above 50Ω. At a recommended tracking force of 2.0 grams and with a dynamic lateral compliance of 14µm/mN, it is best suited to medium-mass tonearms — at home on a wide range of quality turntables from entry-level audiophile to reference installations.

Feature Cards

💎 Nude Micro Ridge Diamond — Precise Groove Contact

Engineered for accurate tracing of fine groove modulations at high frequencies and across inner grooves — where lesser stylus profiles lose contact with the most delicate recorded detail. The Micro Ridge profile extracts more information from the groove with less wear on the record.

⚡ Boron Cantilever — High Stiffness, Low Moving Mass

Boron's exceptional stiffness-to-mass ratio provides fast, controlled response to signal variations without the inertia that compromises timing and transient precision — the ideal partner for the Micro Ridge stylus.

🔬 Pure Silver Quad Coils — Unmatched Signal Clarity

High-purity silver wire wound in a quad coil configuration, combined with Ortofon's newly developed one-piece pole cylinder magnet system — delivering a clean, powerful signal path with exceptional clarity and detail retrieval.

🏭 Ortofon-Exclusive In-House Suspension

A newly developed rubber compound, formulated specifically for the MC X50 and produced entirely in-house by Ortofon — working in balance with the Micro Ridge stylus and boron cantilever for stable tracking, minimised distortion, and consistent groove contact.
