The new challenger. The Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono builds on the acclaimed T1 formula with a 1.7kg glass platter, 9" aluminium tonearm with spring-based anti-skate, a brand new dual-stage split-passive MM phono preamp built in, and a hand-crafted Sumiko Rainier MM cartridge fitted from the factory. Belt drive, electronic 33/45 RPM speed change, and available in High Gloss, Satin or Wood finishes. Made in Europe.

The New Challenger

The T2 Super Phono takes Pro-Ject's critically acclaimed T1 formula and sensibly enhances it, adding a series of new audiophile features that set a new standard in its price range. It is an entry-level turntable in name only: the specification and the sound are those of something that wants to compete well above its category, and the T2 Super Phono is built to last, by a turntable factory with decades of experience.

A Completely New Built-In Phono Stage

The headline upgrade is the phono stage. The T2 Super Phono debuts a brand new dual-stage split-passive MM phono preamp, first seen in Pro-Ject's critically acclaimed T2 W. Because the Super Phono has additional PCB space, Pro-Ject was able to improve the design and layout further, with an eye on both longevity and audio performance.

For the buyer, that means you can plug the turntable straight into an amplifier's line input and play records, with no separate phono stage to buy. And because the phono stage can be switched off, the T2 Super Phono is not a dead end: if you later move to an MC cartridge, you can bypass the internal stage and use an external phono preamp.

Sumiko Rainier MM Cartridge — Hand-Crafted in Japan

The T2 Super Phono arrives with a Sumiko Rainier moving magnet cartridge already fitted. Hand-crafted in Japan, the Rainier is described by Pro-Ject as placing instruments and vocals right where they belong. A cartridge of this calibre sets the tone for the whole system, so having it fitted from the factory is a real head start.

Glass Platter, Belt Drive & Electronic Speed Change

The 10mm thick glass platter weighs 1.7kg, a substantial mass that supports stable rotation. It runs on a belt drive with a stainless steel and brass main bearing, and is topped with a felt mat. Speed changes between 33 and 45 RPM are handled electronically with the speed switch, so there is no belt moving to do. Wow and flutter is 0.19% at 33 RPM and 0.17% at 45 RPM, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 67dB.

9" Aluminium Tonearm with Spring-Based Anti-Skate

The 9" aluminium tonearm has a 230mm effective length, 22mm overhang and 9.5g effective mass. A brand new adjustable spring-based anti-skating mechanism helps optimise tracking, giving you a simple way to fine-tune the arm for the cartridge you are using.

Made in Europe — Choose Your Finish

The T2 Super Phono is made in Europe, with a commitment to longevity and sustainability. Choose your finish from High Gloss, Satin or Wood to suit the room.

What the Reviewers Say

The T2 Super Phono has been widely praised. AV Forums gave it a Highly Recommended rating and called the internal phono stage "dead silent", with excellent pitch stability. Germany's Mint magazine found the built-in preamp delivered an open, balanced tonal character and improved dynamics. Analog Planet's Ken Micallef called it the table to beat in its price range, with a warm and detailed phono stage.
