Pro-Ject E1.2 Entry System Review: A Complete, Award-Winning Hi-Fi System From the First Spin
Every vinyl journey starts with the same question: where do I begin? In this Pro-Ject E1.2 Entry System review, we look at what may be the most convincing answer we’ve come across in a long time. Pro-Ject, the world’s leading turntable manufacturer, has packaged its EISA Best Value Turntable 2025–2026 winning E1.2, the feature-rich Stereo Box E integrated amplifier and a pair of Speaker Box 3 E bookshelf speakers, with speaker cables included, into one carefully matched bundle. It isn’t a lifestyle gadget dressed up as hi-fi. It’s genuine high-fidelity, engineered as a system, and ready to play straight out of the box.

Why a Matched System Matters
Here at The Audio Tailor, one of the most common conversations we have with newcomers is about system matching. Buy a great turntable and pair it with a mismatched amplifier or underpowered speakers, and you’ll never hear what it’s truly capable of. Get the synergy right, and modest components can sound far greater than the sum of their parts.
That’s exactly what Pro-Ject has done with the Pro-Ject E1.2 Entry System. The cartridge is factory-fitted and aligned, the amplifier’s built-in phono stage is designed for exactly this type of moving magnet cartridge, and the 4Ω Speaker Box 3 E speakers sit comfortably within the Stereo Box E’s power envelope. Three components, three connections and you’re listening to real hi-fi.
The Pro-Ject E1.2 Turntable: An EISA Award-Winner at the Heart
The E1.2 isn’t just a good entry-level deck. It was named EISA Best Value Turntable 2025–2026, and spending time with its engineering makes it clear why.
730g Die-Cast Aluminium Platter
The new 730g die-cast aluminium platter forms an anti-resonant foundation for your records. Critically, Pro-Ject precision-balances each platter in an additional manufacturing step, ensuring an even, stable spin free from the wobble and resonance that afflict lesser designs. It rides on a stainless steel axle in a bronze bushing bearing, a classic, proven pairing for quiet, consistent rotation.
Speed is handled by belt drive with electronic speed control, so switching between 33 and 45rpm is done electronically, with no fiddling with the belt on the pulley. Measured wow and flutter is a respectable ±0.23% at 33rpm and ±0.21% at 45rpm, which translates to steady pitch on sustained piano notes and held vocals.
CNC-Machined Aluminium Tonearm
Where many budget turntables rely on plastic arms, the E1.2 uses a CNC-machined aluminium tonearm with a high-mass gimbal design and a precision pinpoint bearing. The result is solid tracking stability and clarity that a conventional plastic tonearm simply can’t match. With a 218.5mm effective length and 7.0g effective mass, it’s a rigid, well-damped platform that keeps the stylus firmly in the groove.
An oversized-diameter TPE decoupled counterweight sits closer to the pivot, improving balance and tracking for better detail retrieval and firmer bass response, while the decoupling helps isolate the arm from unwanted energy.
Pick it MM E Cartridge: Pre-Fitted and Pre-Aligned
The factory-fitted Pick it MM E cartridge is a premium choice for a bundle at this level. A miniature neodymium generator magnet sits in a low-mass system for improved tracking accuracy. Its conical diamond tip delivers warm, smooth reproduction with low background noise, which is very forgiving of well-loved second-hand records. A highly damped ABS body reduces vibration-induced colouration to a vanishing level.
Best of all, it’s adjusted by Pro-Ject’s technicians before leaving the factory. No protractors, no tracking-force gauges, no stress: connect the included RCA cable, drop a record on and listen. The E1.2 is handmade in the Czech Republic.
“Although an affordable turntable designed to make vinyl accessible to all, Pro-Ject’s E1.2 doesn’t skimp on quality. Offering robust bass and fulsome vocals, this is a disc spinner that’s equally suited to modern pop releases and vintage jazz.”

Stereo Box E Integrated Amplifier: Seven Inputs, Zero Compromise
The Stereo Box E is the unsung hero of this system. Affordable amplifiers often favour features over fidelity, but Pro-Ject has paired genuine versatility with a fully analogue preamplifier stage and a low-noise power amplifier that produces musical, lifelike sound.
Connectivity for Every Source
- Phono input for MM, MI or high-output MC cartridges, with a grounding screw, so no separate phono stage is needed
- Line inputs (RCA and 3.5mm) for a CD player, streamer or laptop
- Coaxial and optical S/PDIF feeding a high-resolution DAC, ideal for your TV or a CD transport
- Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX and aptX HD for high-quality wireless streaming from your phone, tablet or computer
- Subwoofer output for future system expansion
- USB-C output on the rear to power many modern streaming devices, eliminating another power brick
- 6.3mm headphone output with automatic switching for private listening
Power and Performance
Output is rated at 2 × 21W into 8Ω or 2 × 40W into 4Ω (1% THD). With the 4Ω Speaker Box 3 E, you’re getting the full 40W per channel, well within the speakers’ recommended 10–80W range. A 90dB (A-weighted) signal-to-noise ratio, THD below 0.12% at 5W into 4Ω and 60dB channel separation at 1kHz point to a clean, quiet amplifier with a well-defined stereo image.
Build quality is equally impressive: a brushed aluminium front panel with full aluminium buttons, housed in a heavy-duty steel case that shields the sensitive electronics. At 206mm wide and 2kg, it’s compact without feeling flimsy.
Speaker Box 3 E: Real Stereo in a Compact Footprint
Pro-Ject’s brief for the Speaker Box 3 E was clear: a speaker as small as possible that still delivers an impressive stereo experience at a reasonable price. In a world where small spaces often default to a Bluetooth speaker or soundbar, neither of which can deliver true stereo separation, this is a genuinely better path.
Each two-way enclosure pairs a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter with a 3-inch fibreglass bass/mid driver in a bass reflex cabinet with a rear-firing port. Silk domes are prized for their smooth, non-fatiguing treble, while fibreglass cones offer a stiff, light diaphragm for articulate midrange. Frequency response is quoted at 89Hz–20kHz with 85dB sensitivity and a 4Ω nominal impedance.
At just 160mm tall and 1.37kg each, they’re ideal as desktop monitors, on a bookshelf or as part of a home cinema setup. Wall mount brackets are available separately. Because of the rear port, giving them a little breathing room from the wall will help keep the bass tuneful. If you want deeper low-end extension down the track, the Stereo Box E’s sub output makes adding a subwoofer a simple upgrade. Our team is always happy to talk through pairing options.

How It Comes Together Sonically
As a system, the E1.2 Entry System leans into what makes vinyl special. The conical Pick it MM E and the rigid, balanced platter give records a warm, full-bodied presentation, with the robust bass and fulsome vocals EISA praised. The Stereo Box E’s analogue preamp and quiet power stage keep surface noise and hum in the background, letting the music come forward. The Speaker Box 3 E then project a proper stereo image, with instruments placed between and around the speakers rather than collapsed into a single box.
Spin a vintage jazz pressing and you’ll appreciate the texture of a double bass and the breathy decay of a muted trumpet. Switch to a modern pop record and the system holds its composure, with crisp, smooth treble and a punchy midrange. Then, with a tap on your phone, stream via aptX HD Bluetooth or plug your TV into the optical input. It’s an everyday hub for all your music, not just your records.
