Pro-Ject Turntables

Pro-Ject turntables climb a clear ladder, from plug-and-play E models that arrive set up to the 37 kg Signature 12.2 with its 12 inch tonearm. In between, the T, Debut and X ranges add mass, adjustment and connection options.

E range: plug and play

The E1, E1 Phono and E1 BT have tracking force and anti-skating set at the factory, so setup is mostly unboxing. The E1 Phono adds a switchable phono preamp, and the E1 BT pairs a phono preamp with a Bluetooth transmitter. The E1.2 and E1.2 Phono move to a 730 g die-cast aluminium platter and a CNC-machined aluminium tonearm, with the Pick it MM E fitted and aligned.

The Primary E Phono follows the same plug-and-play idea with a built-in phono stage. The Jukebox E1 goes further, combining record player, phono stage, Bluetooth receiver, preamp and power amplifier, so it needs only a pair of speakers. For a ready-made system, see our turntable packages.

T range: machined plinths and Bluetooth

The T1 Evo Phono and T1 Evo BT sit on CNC-machined plinths with no plastic parts or hollow spaces, a build intended to limit vibration. Both have a built-in phono stage, and the BT adds Bluetooth.

Debut and X ranges: adjustment and True Balanced

The Debut Carbon Evo brings an 8.6 inch carbon fibre tonearm and speed control as standard. The Debut EVO 2 has a 300 mm die-cast platter and an RCA socket in the plinth, so the phono cable can be swapped. The Debut Pro B has the Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge and adjustable VTA and azimuth, and the Debut Reference 10 pairs a 10 inch carbon-aluminium arm with an acrylic platter and a True Balanced mini XLR output.

The X1 B pairs True Balanced with an 8.6 inch carbon and aluminium sandwich tonearm. The X2 B has a 2 kg acrylic platter, a 9 inch tonearm and both mini XLR and RCA outputs, and comes with several cartridge options, including a moving coil version. The X8 Evolution has a 5.1 kg platter and is offered with or without a cartridge.

Heavier decks and a classic look

The Xtension 10 Evolution is a 22 kg belt drive with an inner-damped alloy platter and a carbon fibre arm for cartridges from 4 to 14 g. The Signature 12.2 tops the range with a 10 kg platter on a magnetically decoupled bearing and a flywheel belt drive. The Classic Evo puts electronic speed control and adjustable decoupling feet in a wooden chassis.

Questions we get asked

What is True Balanced on the Debut Pro B, X1 B and X2 B?

The cartridge's signal stays balanced all the way to a matching True Balanced phono stage, designed to reject noise picked up along the cable. It works with a moving coil cartridge or the Pick it PRO Balanced, a moving magnet cartridge modified for the job. Our phono preamplifiers are the other half of that chain.

Does the T1 Evo BT need a phono preamp?

No. It has a phono stage built in, so it connects straight to an amplifier's line input or powered speakers, or streams over Bluetooth. It suits a compact or second system.

Can the Automat A2 play singles and 78s?

Yes. The Automat A2 is a fully mechanical automatic: press start and the arm moves to the lead-in groove. You can set the drop-off point for 7 or 12 inch records at 45 RPM, and it has a 78 RPM speed for shellac, which is normally played with a dedicated 78 stylus.
