REL Subwoofers

REL subwoofers in our range run from the 6.5-inch T-Zero MKIII to the 212 Black Label with its four 12-inch drivers, across Serie T/x, Serie S, the HT models, the walnut Classics and the ultra-thin Planar designs. Many connect through REL's High Level input, so your amplifier shapes the choice as much as your room does.

High Level and .1/LFE connections

The High Level input takes its signal from your main amplifier's speaker outputs and is designed to draw no power from them, aiming for a sub that shares the system's character. The T/7x, T/9x, S/550, S/850, 212 Black Label and both Classic models connect this way. The S/550, S/850 and 212 Black Label can run High Level and .1/LFE together, so music keeps that blend while films still get the dedicated bass channel from an AV receiver.

Serie T/x, T-Zero MKIII and the HT models

The T/5x uses a single long-throw 8-inch driver in a floor-firing layout, while the T/7x and T/9x pair Class A/B amplification with alloy/fibre bass engines. The T/9x SE has a carbon fibre centre cap that cuts 10 grams of moving mass and a 300 watt Class A/B monoblock amplifier, in five coloured lacquers, for owners who want the sub noticed before it plays a note.

The T-Zero MKIII has an aluminium-coned 6.5-inch driver, a 100 watt Class D amplifier and a separate .1/LFE input, sized for apartments and studies. For cinema rooms, the HT/1003 mkII, HT/1205 mkII and HT/1510 step through 10, 12 and 15-inch CarbonGlas drivers with 300, 500 and 1,000 watt amplifiers.

Serie S, Carbon and Line Arrays

Models such as the S/510, S/550 and S/850 pair an active driver with a passive radiator, an unpowered cone that does a port's job. The S/510 and S/550 use a 10-inch active driver with a 12-inch radiator, the S/850 a 12-inch CarbonAlloy driver with an 850 watt Linear Class D amplifier, and the S/812 a NextGen5 Class D amplifier. The Carbon Special and Carbon Special Black Label move to 12-inch carbon fibre drivers, with 1,000 and 900 watts, drawing on REL's Reference line.

The 212 Black Label tops Serie S with two 12-inch CarbonAlloy active drivers, rear and down-firing passive radiators and 1,000 watts, for large stereo rooms and dedicated theatres. The S/510, S/550, S/812, S/850 and Carbon Special Black Label can also be stacked as a Line Array, the S/550 up to three units per channel.

Classic and Planar, when the room sets the brief

The Classic 98 and Classic 99 put down-firing 10 and 12-inch drivers in walnut cabinets with mid-century lines. The Planar PL-1 and PL-2 are ultra-thin wall-mounting designs with Airship Direct wireless built in, and a passive radiator firing at the wall, designed so the wall adds to the output. The PL-1 suits smaller and medium rooms, while the 144mm-deep PL-2 is aimed at larger rooms and open living spaces.

Questions we get asked

Do I need REL Arrow wireless?

No. Arrow is an optional wireless link: the T/9x and T/9x SE work with it, models such as the S/550 and 212 Black Label take the optional Airship Direct module, and the HT/1003 mkII has optional HT-Air.

Can I add a REL subwoofer to a stereo amplifier?

Yes, on models with the High Level input, which connects to the speaker outputs, so no subwoofer output is needed. Tell us your amplifier model and we'll work out the cleanest connection.

Which REL suits a small room?

The T-Zero MKIII is sized for apartments and studies, the T/5x keeps a compact footprint, and the Planar PL-1 mounts on the wall. Placement matters too, so talk it through with us.
